I was reading on the internet about Amy Grant's biography last night and learned a lot of interesting things about her. I wasn't aware that her ex husband, Gary Chapman, had drug addiction problems. Also they had three children together and lived in Tennessee. She was born in 1960 so that would make her about 45 years old right now. She divorced Gary after 16 years of marriage because apparently she had given her heart to her long-time dear friend Vince Gill. They tried to make things work, went to marital counseling but at the end Amy still filed for separation and then divorce. Likewise, Vince Gill had already left and divorced his wife of 17 years with which they had one daughter. They've been together for almost five years now and both say they are very happy together. Vince Gill and Amy had been friends for years while they were single and remained friends even when she married Gary and he married someone else. Gary, her ex, apparently begged her not to leave but she still chose to leave because her heart was for another man. There aren't too many details of what exactly their issues were but there were articles that stated that their marriage was in trouble from day one due to Gary's drug problems.
After reading this, I can't help but to think that maybe she married too soon (like most marriages) and did not give herself time to spiritually mature and grow so that she can make wiser decisions regarding the right marriage partner. I also feel sad for her children because my parents divorced when I was a teenager so I know how hard it is for the kids to go through a divorce.
Just curious what your thoughts are on their situation.
