I don't like them for me but they can look good on others. I saw a recent tattoo on a friend's side that was scripture and it looked beautiful.

I agree. I am not against them per say, but I feel that God has given us clear evidence in the bible not to get them. Every time it comes up, people try and rule out the scriptures. They say tattoos are fine, even thought the bible clearly says:
Leviticus 19:28
Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord.
Very clear and to the point. You should not mark your body.
God made us is HIS image, and I don't know about you, but last time I looked God does not have tattoos.
God Bless
Sorry I just realized that this is the Fabulous Forties section, I won't post here again.
KEA44: Yes, they can look beautiful and for Christians seeking to testify they can be effective conversation-starters.
My wife and I were shopping recently and we got talking to a lady with a John 3.16 tattoo. She said it was her favorite Bible verse; and I'm sure many other occasions for witness have arisen as a result of her willingness to go under the needle.
I had to go and check my friend's FB page for the verse. She has Jeremiah 29:11 on her side.
This is a lovely verse for testimony, isn't it?
Did you know your friend before she got tattooed?
Maybe she has mentioned to you opportunities she has had to tell people about the Lord, as a result of the tattoo.
Blessings to you and yours.
It is such a beautiful verse! I will have to ask her. It's funny how all of her pics of it she's in a bikini or some crazy tiny outfit. It must make for some interesting conversations!!!
I think they are cool on other people, but would never get on myself.
I'm very afraid of needles.
I don't mind them on others, although I have to say some of the more evil looking ones are too much. I just don't ever want any myself. To be honest alot of people want to be different so they get tattoos, and those without tattoos are the ones in the minority!
I dont mind them. I personally wouldnt get one, unless it was in theAm I the only person left alive the can't stand the things?
Hardly. It absolutely amazes (and frankly disgusts) me that these have become considered "normal," along with getting God knows what pierced etc etc. barf. A sign IMO of how far our society has fallen in its standards. Sorry to anyone who has/likes them; I'm sure there are things I like you couldn't stand too...to each their own and all that. Just my two centsAm I the only person left alive the can't stand the things?
Because there's no such thing as "well done."If one thinks long and hard about it, and it is well done, why not?
No, not really.I don't like them for me but they can look good on others.
Somebody else gets it. Thank you. That is, sadly, what it's all about for most: being "hip." Hey everyone else is doing, it, it's cool, it's hip, I better do it no matter what! Pathetic frankly. Oh wellI think some people go way overboard & they look ridiculous on some people (cubicle workers that have no .mil background & baristas)
I have a couple that don't show when I am dressed in professional (and 9/10ths of casual) attire and I don't buy the OT prohibitions, I just think they look silly on non-warrior caste/ non-sailor/ non-1% er or other real biker/ non-prostitutes. If a person doesn't fit into one of those categories, tattoos come off like the office workers that put on clean black leather on the weekends and trailer their Harleys to bike rallies. Leathers should be covered in dead bugs & dust, Rallies should be ridden to and tattoos should be earned not put on to create an "edgy wannabe hip" image.
Stand tall, you are a rare breed. So glad I did not give in to peer pressure.![]()
Great post! Not one has been able to scripturally debate that...just a bunch of I feel or I believes...The OT does not say that tattoos are prohibited. The verse that is always (mis)quoted is referring to pagan customs of cutting or marking one's body during rituals for the dead. The offense was in the worship of pagan gods and idols rather than the worship of God. The same passage (Lev 19:27) forbids the cutting of hair on the head or cutting beards. Do all of you who claim Lev 19:28 as forbidding tattoos, have hair and beards down to your ankles?? I didn't think so. You love to cherry pick little bits and pieces of the Old Law! Regardless, we are not under the Mosaic Law anymore, we are under the New Covenant of grace by the blood of Christ.
Did any of you know that some Hebrews used to mark themselves for God? Isaiah 44:5 Some will say, 'I belong to the LORD'; others will call themselves by the name of Jacob; still others will write on their hand, 'The LORD's,' and will take the name Israel.
And before you think that this refers to some temporary "writing" as with a pen and ink, something that would just be there for an hour and then rub or wash off, think again.
First century scholar Procopius observed firsthand that Christians were marking themselves: "Because many marked their wrists or their arms with the sign of the cross, or with the name of Christ."
And the JFB commentary on Isaiah 44:5 clarifies even further: "...alluding to the puncture with ink on the hand, whereby a soldier marked himself as bound to his commander; and whereby the Christians used to mark themselves with the name of Christ."
Not at all. It's simply a misunderstanding of Scripture.""Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord." ~ Leviticus 19:28"-------- Said the woman with pierced ears. HA. The irony. Or is it hypocrisy?
