  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

One of my favorites goes way back to 1977, 10CC The Things We Do For Love, and carries a lot of great memories, and has a bit of humor in it.

Too many broken hearts have fallen in the river
Too many lonely souls have drifted out to sea,
You lay your bets and then you pay the price
The things we do for love, the things we do for love.
Communication is the problem to the answer
You've got her number and your hand is on the phone
The weather's turned and all the lines are down
The things we do for love, the things we do for love.
Like walking in the rain and the snow
When there's nowhere to go
And you're feelin' like a part of you is dying
And you're looking for the answer in her eyes.
You think you're gonna break up
Then she says she wants to make up.
Ooh you made me love you
Ooh you've got a way
Ooh you had me crawling up the wall.
Like walking in the rain and the snow
When there's nowhere to go
And you're feelin' like a part of you is dying
And you're looking for the answer in her eyes.
You think you're gonna break up
Then she says she wants to make up.
Ooh you made me love you
Ooh you've got a way
Ooh you had me crawling up the wall.
A compromise would surely help the situation
Agree to disagree but disagree to part
When after all it's just a compromise of
The things we do for love, the things we do for love....

Things we do for love is a great song, DonnieB. I have to admit whenever Valentine's Day rolls around my favourite song is "Love Stinks" by J Geils Band. I know, I know...wrong attitude.

As for Christian music one of my favourites is "Freedom" by Whiteheart. The song is actually about our freedom in Christ but I consider being single being 'free' so it's one of my favs.

Peace,

HC

That "Born to fly" song or the new Sheryl Crow one "Try" or something I think it's called. There are probably others, mostly country, but I'll have to think more :)

I have a theme song for just about every day. My "life" theme song is probably "Run" by the Paul Coleman Trio (I think that's the name of the group). That song is awesome. I'll try and post the lyrics :)

sometimes you gotta run,
into the arms of danger.

sometimes you gotta be
the sacrifice.

sometime you gotta say
things that dont come easy.

They say, "just follow your heart",
yet but what if it lies.

And God only knows how to play
this game called Life and Living.. .

(chorus)

so hold me.

light a candle in the
window pane tonight.

Stop me running from the things
that could save my life.

( verse 2)

Well, you know i tried,
i tried to make you love me.

and i should've known,
it would make you run. (yeah)

Some people always want,
just a little more that the given.

when is finally cought,
the it loses it's life (oooh)

And God only knows how to play
this game called Life and Living.. .

(Chorus x4)

( 3 times)

you better run, run, run,
run you better run

I've been tellin' my dreams to the scarecrow
'Bout the places that I'd like to see
I said, friend do you think I'll ever get there
Ah, but he just stands there smilin' back at me

So I confessed my sins to the preacher
About the love I've been prayin' to find
Is there a brown eye'd boy in my future, yeah
He says. girl you've got nothin' but time

But how do you wait for heaven
And who has that much time
And how do you keep your feet on the ground
When you know, that you were born, you were born to fly

My daddy, he's grounded like the oak tree
My momma, she is steady as the sun
Oh you know I love my folks
But I keep starin' down the road
Just lookin' for my one chance to run

Yeah, 'cause I will soar away like the blackbird
I will blow in the wind like a sea
I will plant my heart in the garden of my dreams
And I will grow up where I'll wander wild and free

Oh, how do you wait for heaven
And who has that much time
And how do you keep your feet on the ground
When you know, that you were born
You were born yeah
You were born to fly

So how do you wait for heaven
And who has that much time
And how do you keep your feet on the ground
When you know that you were born
You were born to fly fly fly fly

Hey
Ooooh, ooooh

i would have given you all of my heart
but there's someone who's torn it apart
and he's taken just all that i have
but if you want i'll try to love again
baby, i'll try to love again, but i know...

the first cut is the deepest
baby i know
the first cut is the deepest
but when it comes to bein' lucky, he's cursed
when it comes to lovin' me, he's worst...

i still want you by my side
just to help me dry the tears that i've cried
and i'm sure gonna give you a try
if you want i'll try to love again, (try)
baby, i'll try to love again, but i know...

OOHHH,
the first cut is the deepest
baby i know
the first cut is the deepest
but when it comes to bein' lucky, he's cursed
but when it comes to lovin' me, he's worst...

i still want you by my side
just to help me dry the tears that i've cried
but i'm sure gonna give you a try
cuz if you want i'll try to love again
(try to love again, try to love again)
baby, i'll try to love again but i know, OOHHH....

the first cut is the deepest
baby i know
the first cut is the deepest
when it comes to bein' lucky, he's cursed
when it comes to lovin' me, he's worst

OOHHH, the first cut is the deepest
baby i know (baby i know)
the first cut is the deepest
try to love again...

When I am depressed or lonely I like to listen to One More Day by Diamond Rio. It remindes me of high school and my first date, and the first time I danced with a girl.

Any other time I would have to say Frontline by Pillar. It reminds me of the world we live in and how I need to stay aware of my actions.

I'm going to deviate back to the original topic of my singleness theme song. You people are too wistful for me. :D

My singlehood theme song would be Saturday Night's Alright (for Fighting) by Elton John/Nickelback (depends on your preference- I like Elton's funk, but I like Nickelback's raw, angry approach and the updated lyrics.)

Don't give us none of your aggravation/we've had it with your discipline
Saturday night's alright for fighting/get a little action in
Get about as oiled as a diesel train/ gonna send us down the line
Saturday night's the night I like/ Saturday night's alright
Alright, Alright! Wooo oooo ooo oooooooo!

Or when I'm not feeling so much like a rebel  , it would have to be It's the End of the World As We Know It (and I Feel Fine) by REM. I think it's a very similar to how my brain processes things and it's just really fun! Although to this day, I've only met 2 other people who could sing all the lyrics, in tune, in rhythm, and with seamless breathing. We're all ready to pass out when we're done, but a good time is had by all! :D

Mine would have to be ~~ you were gone....

"you took off your peg leg, your wig , and your glasses
you were surprised by the look on my face,
I wanted to hug and to squeeze, and to kiss you,
But you were spread out all over the place."

"Were oh were are you tonight,
Why did you leave me hear all alone?
I searched the world over , and I thought I found true love,
You met another, and you were gone!!"

haha

My theme song would be, I think the title is: I Promise by Jaci Velasquez, it goes something like:

Lord, You know my heart
And all my desires
And the secret things I'll never tell
Lord, You know them well

Though I may be young
I see and understand
That at times like sheep we go astray
And things get out of hand

Chorus:
So I promise to be true to You
To live my life in purity
As unto You
Waiting for the day
When I hear You say
Here is the one I have created
Just for you

Until then, O Lord
I will be content
Knowing that true love
Will come someday
It will only come from You

‘Cause I have seen the suffering
That loneliness can cause
When we choose to give our love away
Without a righteous cause

Chorus

I would have to submit two 'single' songs.

Lonely People by Jars Of Clay

This is for all the lonely people
Thinkin' that life has passed them by
Don't give up until you drink from the silver cup
Ride that highway in the sky

This is for all the single people
Thinkin' life has left them dry
Don't give up until you drink from the silver cup
You'll never know until you try

'Cause, I'm on my way, yes, I'm on my way
Yeah, I'm on my way back home

This is for all the lonely people
Thinkin' that life has passed them by
Don't give up until you drink from the silver cup
She'll never take you down or give you up
You'll never know until you try

Table For Two By Caedmon's Call

Danny and I spent another late night over pancakes,
Talkin' 'bout soccer
And how every man's just the same
We made speculation
On the who's and the when's of our futures
And how everyone's lonely
But still we just couldn't complain

And how we just hate being alone
Could I have missed my only chance
And now I'm just wasting my time
By looking around
But you know I know better
I'm not gonna worry 'bout nothing
Cause if the birds and the flowers survive
Then I'll make it okay
I'm given a chance and a rock
see which one breaks a window
See which one keeps me up all night and into the day

Because I'm so scared of being alone
That I forget what house I live in
But it's not my job to wait by the phone
For her to call

Well this day's been crazy
But everything's happened on schedule
from the rain and the cold
To the drink that I spilled on my shirt
'Cause You knew how You'd save me
before I fell dead in the garden
And You knew this day
long before You made me out of dirt

And You know the plans that You have for me
And You can't plan the end and not plan the means
And so I suppose I just need some peace
Just to get me to sleep.

I realize I can be a little corny but here goes ...

Jesus loves me this I know
For the Bible tells me so
Little ones to him belong
They are weak but he is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me.
The Bible tells me so.

I sometimes sing this when I first lay down at night if it has been a tough day.
It is a reminder that all we NEED is God and he will always love us regardless of what we do.

Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me.
Yes, Jesus loves me.
The Bible tells me so.
Simple, yet potent. I like it!
As for me, I like to go with "Perfect Love" by The OC Supertones.

Do you need someone?
Are you like me?
Do you fall apart?
You're just like me.

Have there been times?
You felt so low?
Don't you forget
You're not alone

Angels are standing by your bed
Jesus is watching over you
He'll never leave that's what he said
Is that what you want cuz I know I do

(chorus)
I want love love love
I want perfect love. (X3)

Well I pretend
I just need me
I seem so strong
But it's make believe

Cuz I've seen love fail
I've been betrayed
I've seen love pass
I've seen love fade

But I know that God is not that way
He doesn't change from day to day
He doesn't fail he doesn't leave
And I want that so desperately

(chorus)

He loves broken hearts
Faith like a child
And now here I come
With just a broken heart
And faith like a child

I want love love love
I want perfect love.
I want love love love
I want perfect love.
Will someone tell me where to find
Some place to ease my troubled mind (X2)

I want love love love
I want perfect love.

"Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd I love the part especially that says "we're just two lost souls, swimming in a fish bowl, year after year"--my 'fish' is out there somewhere, we just got find each other

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

I also like 'Try A Little Tenderness" by Otis Redding because I like to jam out to it a la Duckie from Pretty In Pink. It cheers me up.

Oh, she may be weary
Young girls they do get weary
Wearing that same old shaggy dress, yeah yeah
But when she gets weary
Try a little tenderness, yeah yeah

You know she's waiting
Just anticipating
For things that she'll never never never never possess, yeah yeah
But while she's there waiting, without them
Try a little tenderness (that's all you gotta do)

It's not just sentimental, no no no
She has her grief and care, yeah yeah yeah
But the soft words they are spoke so gentle, yeah
It makes it easier, easier to bear, yeah

You won't regret it, no no
Some girls they don't forget it
Love is their only happiness, yeah
But it's all so easy
All you gotta do is try, try a little tenderness, yeah
All you gotta do is man, hold her where you want her

Squeeze her, don't tease her, never leave her
Get to her drop drop
Just try a little tenderness, ooh yeah yeah yeah
You got to know how to love her, man, you'll be surprised, man
You've got to squeeze her, don't tease her, never leave
You've got to hold her and rub her softly
Try a little tenderness, ooh yeah yeah yeah
You've got to rub her gentle man, all you gotta do, no no
You've got to love her, squeeze her, don't tease her
Gotta drop nah nah nah drop
Try a little tenderness, yeah, watch her groove
You've gotta to know what to do, man
Take this advice
