  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

This is a phrase to help people identify their purpose in life. I just want to throw it out here, and have all you cool Internet people tell me what you think. Does it help? Is it flawed? Make any suggestions for how to improve this phrase if you don't like it; rarely are good things accomplished when someone says gives negativity without any substance. Thanks!

Your purpose in life is where your deep desires & the world's deep hungers meet.

It's a variation on an original quote from theologian/writer Frederick Buechner from his book 'Wishful Thinking: A Theological ABC":

“The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”

God gave everybody a purpose, even if a lot of us (including me) don't know what it is.
It's been a very gradual process...the past 6 years or so have been an methodical unwinding of the scroll of the life goals that will truly bring me satisfaction.

But I must ask all 3 of you....did this quote help at all?

Hopefully it did. I really like making people feel better about themselves and remind them that Jesus loves them just the way they are. :) Even crazy marbless knuckleheads like me. :p

I assure you, this is one of the deep hungers in the world. Pursue it, and in a few months, come back & tell us how it goes. This is something that has really helped me the moment I heard it; the quote was on a Catholic CD talk (can't remember what one; maybe with Chris Stefanick?). I realized the wisdom of the phrase, and it made me realize that my desire for a girlfriend can easily mesh with the world's deep hunger for honorable relationships. Divorce, domestic violence, and a general culture of girls "settling for less" are terrible things, and my own desire to be a good boyfriend points to part of my purpose as being a really good husband.

What else could be your purpose in life?

You're a hopeless romantic Alex. I'm sure you'll make a caring husband for some young woman out there.

I hope the world is kind to you. :)
