...I was told that there is no way kids "these days" will know these things. What do you all think?
Isn't that exactly WHY you are creating this list? Because kids these days won't know these things? Keep it up, I don't think it's too much to learn.

By the way, I'm ashamed to admit it, but I don't know (nor have I even HEARD of) some of the prayers you mention. And I've been Catholic my whole life.

Angel of God? Memorare? Never heard of 'em :o

Angel of God,
My guardian dear,
To whom God's love commits me here,
Ever this day,
Be at my side,
To light and guard,
To rule and guide.
Amen.

(You can also say before bed- "ever this night be at my side)

And the Memorare;

Rememebr, O most Gracious Virgin Mary
That never was it known
That anyone who fled to Thy protection,
Implored thy help,
Or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspiried by these confidences,
I fly unto thee
O Virgin of virgins,
My Mother.
To thee we come,
Before thee we stand sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
Despise not my petitions,
But in thy mercy
hear and answer me.

(Mother Teresa called reciting 9 Memorares her "Emergency Novena)

I am the DRE at my parish and I have been sending home letters with prayers written out saying their children should know these prayers...and I even explain why. Well, the parents asked me to write a list out for each grade as to what prayers each grade should know, so they can work on teaching their kids at home too...I thought AWESOME!!! Well, I wrote out my list and here it is:

Kindergarten:

They should know the Sign of the Cross and be familiar with: Angel of God, Grace before meals, Glory Be and Hail Mary.

1st grade:
they should know the Sign of the Cross, Angel of God, Grace before meals, Glory Be and Hail Mary.

2nd grade:
All of those before this and Our Father and Act of Contrition.

3rd grade:
All of those and they should know the seven sacraments and how to look up a verse in the bible.

4th grade:
All of those and the 10 Commandments and the two greatest Comandments.

5th grade:
All of those and the Apostle's Creed.

Middle School:
All of those and the Memorare and the Stations of the Cross.

High School:
All of those and how to completely say the Rosary.

Now, I thought I was being kind of easy on this...I took a lot of things off and I was told that there is no way kids "these days" will know these things. What do you all think?

Boy, I wish I had been raised Catholic. I still do not know all of that!

I have little booklets that I have to pull our when I am with a crowd of prayers. OH! the humiliation of it all.

I'm a cradle Catholic, and know all of this and I still have the little booklets:)

Don't worry, just take your time and explore the rich and beautiful prayer heritage of the Church. A very good pocket prayer book is this:

Catholic prayer book with meditations by Fr. John Hardon (link)

It has all of the basic prayers. Plus meditations, quotes from the saints and many other things. It was written before the Luminous Mysteries were added to the Rosary, so they are not there. But other than that it is portable, inspiring and good for a Catholic who knows the prayers by heart or is just learning them.

Sorry to go on, I'm a big fan of Fr. H:).

Is there a sticky thread of all of the common Catholic prayers? That would be nice to have for those who don't know the more common ones...and uncommon ones also, and we could put in Novenas and stuff like that. It would also be nice to have for those who are searching and looking at becoming Catholic.
