Your inspiration

Who were your inspirations to write? I had a couple.

My English teacher at sixth form college encouraged me a lot.

Writers who inspired me were Humphrey Carpenter, who wrote Mr Majieka, and JRR Tolkin, who did Lord of the Rings.

My inspiration to write in a non-school setting came from a writing teacher I had in 7th grade or so, and my inspiration to make this more than a dream is Dr. Hensley, my current writing prof.

My mom, though I fear I have dissapointed her sometimes.

My 9th grade English teacher, Mrs. West. I don't know if she was be honest or being nice, but she always enjoyed my stories. No matter how dark they were.

As for writers, the primary are Tolkien and Dan Simmons. However, I pull inspiration from a myriad of sources.

My inspiration never really came from people. I've always loved to read, and I daydream like nobody's business. I was the girl who had her stuffed animals and dolls acting out mass soap operas using the whole kitchen as a 'landscape.' Or if I got really bored on a school bus or something, I'd just watch strangers and make up life stories for them. Now, my inspiration tends to come from anything artistic that intrigues me. Today I got a new idea based on a three-second or so section of an instrumental song I listened to. It brought a picture of a certain kind of struggle into my mind, so I started working with it.

I hope that wasn't too off-topic. Writing's always been more of a personal thing for me. Though I've always been secretly happy inside when teachers and professors tell me I'm a gifted writer. I guess that's the sort of support that gives me some hope for someday getting published.
