  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Although this may seem cliché, John 3:16 has to be my favourite verse. It sums up God's love, mercy, and His divine plan in one easily understood verse 'For God loved the world so much that He gave His only begotten son so those who believeth in Him may not perish but have everlasting life'

But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God's right hand.

I love this verse because it constantly reminders me of the perfection of Jesus' finished work on the cross and why sins cannot seperate us from God.

I'm going to go with Ephesians ch. 1. I tried to isolate specific portions of the text, but it's all just so good. It's hard to pick a favorite Scripture. It's probably easier to pick favorite books of Scripture--the Gospel according to St. Luke, St. Paul's epistles to the Romans and the Galatians, and also to the Ephesians and the Colossians.

I have so many but these stand out in my mind.

2 Chronicles 16:9
For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

Isaiah 57:15
For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

They encourage me to do better and be humble.

PSALM 103

Praise for the LORD‘s Mercies
.

A Psalm of David.

1 BLESS the LORD, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name.
2 Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget none of His benefits;
3 Who pardons all your iniquities;
Who heals all your diseases;
4 Who redeems your life from the pit;
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion;
5 Who satisfies your years with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.

6 The LORD performs righteous deeds,
And judgments for all who are oppressed.
7 He made known His ways to Moses,
His acts to the sons of Israel.
8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious,
Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.
9 He will not always strive with us;
Nor will He keep His anger forever.
10 He has not dealt with us according to our sins,
Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him.
12 As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
13 Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him.
14 For He Himself knows our frame;
He is mindful that we are but dust.

15 As for man, his days are like grass;
As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16 When the wind has passed over it, it is no more;
And its place acknowledges it no longer.
17 But the lovingkindness of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting
on those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children,
18 To those who keep His covenant,
And who remember His precepts to do them.

19 The LORD has established His throne in the heavens;
And His sovereignty rules over all.
20 Bless the LORD, you His angels,
Mighty in strength, who perform His word,
Obeying the voice of His word!
21 Bless the LORD, all you His hosts,
You who serve Him, doing His will.
22 Bless the LORD, all you works of His,
In all places of His dominion;
Bless the LORD, O my soul!

Well, there's the one from which I took my name: "This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles" (Ps. 34:6).

One that has been much on my mind lately as I have been working through my thinking with regard to soteriology:"Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief" (1 Tim. 1:15).

And then there is what is for me the most comforting verse in the Bible, and the verse from John that should be on posters at football games: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death to life" (John 5:24). I have heard Jesus' word, and I believe on him who sent him, so unless the Lord is an out-and-out liar, my eternity with him has already begun! "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?" :clap::clap::clap:
