The guy who posted about old school alice in chains...

His name is Layne Staley and in my opinion I have never heard anyone sing that well live.

Chris Cornell is also awesome..man Seattle just rocked in the 90's.

Sully from Godsmack has a cool sounding voice.

I also like Lajon Witherspoon for Sevendust (awesome band, but some of the simple minded don't like that he's a black rock vocalist)

The guy who sang for Living Colour was great as well.

Early Cradle of Filth Rocked, wasn't that into Thornography but I'm listening to dusk and her embrace atm.

Serj from system of a down

Jonathan Davis - Korn

Lol, that's enough from me.

Vegard Tveitan (aka Ihsahn) from Emperor/Peccatum because of his range and diversity in singing, and ontop of that being a brilliant composer in alot of different music styles.

"In December 2002, Ihsahn won the ``Notodden Kommunes Kulturpris``, a culture prize given by his home city, Notodden, which has around 12,500 inhabitants. He won the prize because he is considered the most well known inhabitant of Notodden and a great musician, who works as a music teacher, and arranges a lot of concerts for unknown bands. The fact that his band sold more than 500,000 copies also helped him."

The guy who sang for Living Colour was great as well.

His name is Corey Glover.

As far as vocalists go, I'd have to say Geoff Tate of Queensryche, Don Dokken of Dokken, Matthew Barlow formerly of Iced Earth, Ronnie James Dio, Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden, Klaus Meine of Scorpions, David Coverdale of Whitesnake, Sebastian Bach formerly of Skid Row, and the list goes on.

I've been listening to quite a bit of Soundgarden the past few weeks, along with some Audioslave as well. If you're going for bands that draw from the Led Zeppelin/Black Sabbath branch of the tree for influence, Chris Cornell has cemented himself as one of my favorites.

While I think Amorphis was good before, having listened to Elegy and Tales from the Thousand Lakes, I think with the addition of Tomi Joutsen on Eclipse they've undergone a rebirth of sorts and are flat out awesome now. Maybe that's me fangirling a little bit, ah well.

Tom Englund from Evergrey is another of my faves. I also liked Matt Barlow when he was with Iced Earth.

When it comes to a vocal style I don't really like, well...all the metalcore/screamo bands that have popped up in the last several years would qualify.

I'm also not a fan of Serj from System of a Down, and I don't like Robert Plant.

In keeping with this resurrected thread, I'll resurrect some great singers not yet mentioned:

Roy Orbison
John Lennon
Sam Cooke
Janis Joplin
Roy Hamilton
Johnny Maestro (lead singer of The Crests)
Tony Williams (The Platters' lead man)
Nat King Cole
Timi Yuro (who should be better known. The best blue-eyed soul singer of the early 60s. A tremendous voice.)

Ray LaMontagne

Bono

Freddie Mercury (some of his vocals can bring me to tears.)

I was very surprised it took so long for someone to mention Freddie.

A few others I did not notice yet:

Ian Matthews
Grace Slick
Mama Cass Elliot
Boy George

Those last 2 were amazingly talented, though the first look at either was a shock.
