  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

NKJV for me mostly, but when studying the meaning of a scripture, I like to use biblehub.com or biblegateway.com to read as many translations as possible.

My new favorite is EXB.

My long-time favorites are AMP, YLT.

My new favorites for studying Genesis - Malachi is the JPS New Translation or the Artscroll Stone Edition.

NKJV....

I'll never fully get use to the KJV in the second person pronouns... thee, thou, thy, and thine... no matter how I try. BTW, Most scholars say that this is the more accurate translation which is actually singular, and you, your, yours are plural. May be significant difference but I can live with it. Still read KJV along side when comparing though...

When I have the opportunity and are really thinking about a particular bit, I like to do the comparison. One advantage to the KJV, is that in Protestant circles, it has been the standard. As a result, places where words aren't reflected properly are brought into the light. Usually these are the ones that bring people into bondage. "I create evil." for example.

Power and authority is another good example.

I noticed in some translations that it says the same thing in most of it pretty well, but many verses has part of it left out and that very part is very important. How important is that discarded part? If what it said was the truth, then since it's God's Word it's very important.

Can God get His point across in other translations that even do this in places? Obviously. He can also lead you to a greater understanding while you're reading your version that might even take entire verses out. Believe it or not they've done it and gotten away with it.

Are there still passages in our trusted versions that lack the full Greek or Hebrew truth? Undoubtedly. If you want to do His will, you'll know of the doctrine. It might come through multiple sources in pieces over a period of time, but He'll confirm it and as you walk it out testing it for the right fruits, He can make it shine like the sun.

I picked up a Jerusalem Bible someone gave me decades ago and glanced over one bit and was surprised just how different some Bibles really are. But God was till able to use it as a conduit for spiritual truth when I needed it.

It's good that we have ministers God really uses in specific doctrines that we freely partake of to help minister freedom in areas that separate us and bring us into bondage.

I have two favorites. My first is the Orthodox Study Bible for english (St. Athanasius Academy Septuagint Old Testament and new King James Version for New Testament) and a video bible that a local college is working on for American Sign Language.
