  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi All,
I have been trying to find a thread that spoke about scripture not in a theological way but in a personal way...I am new to the forums so I might be overlooking it. I would like this thread to be about your favorite scripture and what it speaks to you. How does it touch your heart? What does it say to your spirit? How do you grow by remembering it? If you have more than one, then please post the ones you love.

This is NOT a thread to discuss theology or to tell someone they are wrong in how it speaks to them, but a thread to share out joy for God and how we grow based on His word!

Enjoy and share!

1 Corinthians 16:14 states, "Do everything in love."

I live by this scripture, as anything done in love has better results than things done for glory, man's approval, out of hatred, or any other reason. I have really grasped on to living this in my life over the past year and it has been amazing to see how my view has changed not only of this world, but of myself.

"My word will not return to Me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it."

This word is a great comfort to me. God has a purpose in His unchangeable word. I will pray according to His word and He will accomplish much!

Amen!

It has been a while since I have read the book of Isaiah...thank you for reminding me about this amazing promise contained within it. I have heard this scripture but have never known it was in Isaiah! Also thank you for reminding us all of the important aspect of praying ACCORDING TO HIS WORD! I know I sometimes forget this when I really want something for someone...healing, forgiveness, blessings, etc., and I pray for God to do it and it isn't done right away and I feel like, "God why didn't you do it?" But you just reminded me...that if I ask for healing without praying HIS WORD, I am not using my full power of prayer as God intended it to be!

Thank you so much for sharing...you have just blessed me beyond anything I could have hoped for this thread...if you are the last one to stop by you have made it worth posting!

Bless you!

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live but Christ lives in me and the life that I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me.

This is always a good reminder for me to pick up my cross daily and follow after Him. It's something I'm learning and not anything I've acquired. I still love it as I am also learning to share in the communion of His suffering. I don't mind being misunderstood these days in the same way He was misunderstood when He had to face the death penalty by His own people to die at the cross for us! By the way, I can never remember bible verses or numbers for that matter so please pardon me for not providing the book nor the verse but I know it's one of Paul's writings.

This is Galatians 2:20! Another one of my favorite verses! Thank you for sharing! The part about taking up your cross daily is from Luke 9:23. Thank you for sharing two verses while intending to share one!

For I know the plans I have for you decalres the LORD, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope adn a future' Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:11!

I just started going to college, and the first series at my new church (which I LOVE!) was about letting God take our hand and reassure us that He has a plan for us, even though we may feel overwealmed and lost. College is completely new for me and right now I have no idea where my life is going, whereas before I always had a plan, whatever was next. I love this passage because it reminds me that whatever happens, wherever I go, whatever I end up doing, God is there with me and He is guiding me. =D!

My fav verse is Col 3:11 which states that "Christ is all, and in all. " This verse speaks wonders for me. I feel that no matter where I go, no matter what I do that Christ is there for me. He's the universe, he's the speck of dust on your shoe. He is and it makes me feel complete and whole inside knowing that he's there.

You guys are sharing some great scripture! Thank you so much. This is so awesome because you are reminding of the great truths in the Bible and why I should read other chapters more often instead of studying the same ones and just reading them...I need to meditate on them and enjoy them. Thank you so much!

I don't know the entire chapter but here goes:

How blessed is the man that walketh not according to the counsel of the ungoldly but his delight is in the law of the Lord and in His law does he meditate day and night. He shall be like a tree that is planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in its season. His leaf also shall not wither and whatsoever he doeth, shall prosper.

I like this as it speaks life into me whenever I feel discouraged by the suggestions others may have to offer me in things that relate to everday living.

Zechariah 9:9:

"Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion!
Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you,
righteous and having salvation,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey."

I think this speaks with more joy and meaning for itself than I could ever express.

I don't think I have ever seen that one in such a light! This is why I am enjoying this so much. You know how you read the books and you meditate but you miss the scriptures and getting as deep as when you see them by themselves and can really reflect on them? That is how it is for me! Your are all blessing me so much!

Thank you! I hope you are being equally as blessed!

Psalm 112

1[a] Praise the LORD. [b]
Blessed is the man who fears the LORD,
who finds great delight in his commands.
2 His children will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches are in his house,
and his righteousness endures forever.
4 Even in darkness light dawns for the upright,
for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man. [c]
5 Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely,
who conducts his affairs with justice.
6 Surely he will never be shaken;
a righteous man will be remembered forever.
7 He will have no fear of bad news;
his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.
8 His heart is secure, he will have no fear;
in the end he will look in triumph on his foes.
9 He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor,
his righteousness endures forever;
his horn [d] will be lifted high in honor. 10 The wicked man will see and be vexed,
he will gnash his teeth and waste away;
the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.

I just learned this one this morning on a deeper level. My pastor said if he could he would require everyone to learn this Psalm. I plan on doing just that because it has some amazing promises within it.

Mine is Psalm 36:5-9
"5Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens, and Thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.

6Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; Thy judgments are a great deep; O LORD, Thou preservest man and beast.

7How excellent is Thy lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Thy wings.

8They shall be abundantly satisfied with the bounty of Thy house, and Thou shalt make them drink of the river of Thy pleasures.
9For with Thee is the fountain of life; in Thy light shall we see light"
It just shows me how great God truly is. This verse describes the way I see God to a T. When I first read those verses, I started to cry. It was so beautiful.

It is on my sign off, but it shows me that Yeshuah loves me eternally. That is such a blessed safety I experience from that...

1 Chronicles 14:14 - 16 says: "And once again David asked God what to do. "Do not attack them straight on," God replied. "Instead, circle around behind them and attack them near the balsam trees. When you hear a sound like marching feet in the tops of the balsam trees, attack! That will be the signal that God is moving ahead of you to strike down the Philistines." So David did what God commanded, and he struck down the Philistine army all the way from Gibeon to Gezer."

This reminds me that when I LISTEN to God without trying to add my own formula, I will not be defeated! So often I want to add my own part and HELP (LOL) him out...but He only requires that we listen and follow!

It's hard to know which scripture to choose!

Here's one I was meditating on this morning. In fact, I wrote a couple of pages, but I'll spare you.

Romans 8:1 > There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit.

I can’t fulfill God’s will, His commands, in the flesh. Try as I may, I will fail. No man can say, “I have made myself clean.”

But in Christ Jesus I am free.
Romans 8:2 > For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death.

He does not condemn me, not as long as I walk after Him, which means I will not permit the devil for a single moment to drag me through the mud with guilt and shame. If I sin, I confess it, repent, and go on, free. I will not become entangled in sin. I do not make it my lifestyle. It is impossible for the one who walks after the spirit to make sin a lifestyle. The one who walks after the spirit is not a person who wants to sin, but a person who wants God, as all His children do.

Thank God, through Christ Jesus, I am free!

Here you go.

Free from the Law

Romans 8:1 > There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit.

Let us walk after the spirit and not fulfill the lusts of the flesh according to Gal. 5:16. There is condemnation for those who are under the law. We are not under the law if we are in Christ Jesus, but have been made free.

2 > For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death.
As it was, if anyone broke the law, anyone sinned, death followed, for the wages of sin is death. Rom. 6:23

James 2:10 > For whoever keeps the whole law, and yet offends in one point, he is guilty of all.

It looks very bleak for us in view of this. But we are not walking after the flesh. We can’t fulfill God’s will, His commands, in the flesh. Try as we may, we will fail. No man can say, “I have made myself clean.”
No man can make himself clean because of the weakness of the flesh.

3 > For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh; that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit.

There was nothing wrong with the law. It came from God and it was perfect. The problem lay in the weakness of the flesh. All failed. All have sinned. But God, He had a marvelous plan from the foundation of the world.

Nothing catches God by surprise. He knew even before He created man exactly what would happen. Scripture says Jesus was slain from the foundation of the world. Nothing happens to you that takes God by surprise. He knew what will happen and He has already made a provision for you.

So God sends His Son in the likeness of sinful flesh. Jesus became a man, 100% man. He made Himself of no reputation, He who was God and thought it not robbery to be equal to God, Phil. 2:6,7, and took on the form of a servant by becoming flesh, becoming man. He was made just like us. He was tempted in all points as we are.

Let’s take a look at Heb. 4:15 and Heb. 2:14-18.
Heb. 4:15 > For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. TNIV

Heb 2:14-18 > Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
15 > and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
16 > For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham.
17 > Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
18 > For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted. NASB

Yet praise God, he was without sin, thus making Him a prefect Savior. He condemned sin, putting a stop to its effect for us, that the righteousness of the law could be fulfilled in us. The righteousness of the law fulfilled in us! His righteousness, His perfect keeping of the law is credited to us! The clause added to this is, who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit.

Don’t try to do it yourself. Walk after God. Pursue Him. Believe Him. He has been made a substitute for you, paying our penalty, crucified in your stead. He bore your sin, became sin, that you may become the righteousness of God.

2 Corinthians 5:21 > God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. TNIV

Don’t permit the devil for a single moment to drag you through the mud with guilt and shame. If we sin, we confess it, repent, and go on, free. Do not become entangled in sin. Do not make it your lifestyle. It is impossible for the one who walks after the spirit to make sin a lifestyle. The one who walks after the spirit is not a person who wants to sin, but a person who wants God, as all His children do.

You had fair warning of its being long!
I wrote more on vss. 5-18 today.
