  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pokemon (Yes, it's an RPG, and yes I like it; GBA)

All right! Another guy who likes pokemon!

All the Final Fantasy games
Pokemon
Fable
KOTOR 1 (have only played a little of 2 since i haven't had time, but what I played was good)
Star Ocean (original for SNES and till the end of time)
Morrowind
Oblivion (i know it isn't out yet, but I'm sure I'll love it)
Zelda (don't really consider it an RPG, but I'll throw it up anyway)

I'm sure there are others that I am forgetting, but those are the ones that come to mind right away.

Most console RPGs are found on the PS or PS2, or if you go back further, the (S)NES and some Sega systems. Also, most RPGs are turn-based. At least the traditional ones in the style of the Final Fantasy series.

I'm not sure why you despise turn-based RPGs so much. I typically see it as a trade-off. Turn-based RPGs generally have more involved stories. "Action RPGs" generally take focus from the story and shift it to the gameplay. Both are great in their own way.

These are the ones I've played.

Playstation:
FF7, 8, 9
Wild ARMs
Lunar: SSS and EB
Xenogears
FF Tactics (this one is SUPER turn-based, as it is a "strategy RPG," which essentially is a complex synthesis of normal turn-based RPGs and chess, but it's great fun and a good challenge)
If you don't care about graphics, the older FFs have also been re-released. All of these should be fairly cheap, with the possible exception of the Lunar series which may be too rare to be cheap. My favorites of these are... well, all but FF8. ^_^;

PS2:
FFX

A good game, to be sure.

On the action side, you can't go wrong with Zelda, though from what I've seen of friends playing the N64/GC ones, I may actually prefer my GameBoy copy I was given by a friend (Link's Awakening).

Eh, that's all I can say. Good luck.

Fallout and Fallout 2 are both awesome games and run great on my old 133MHz notebook. I think the system requirements are Pentium 90MHz and 16MB RAM so they should run fine on your system, whatever it is. Movement is real-time and combat is turn-based and there are multiple solutions to every problem depending on what kind of character you want to play. Talk your way into and out of situations or shoot your way into and out of them. :D

Also, all of the Infinity games should run fine on your computer. Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Icewind Dale 1 & 2 and Planescape: Torment. All of those are awesome games and have pretty low system requirements. Also, you can pause and issue orders at any time so it works for people who like real time or turn based. Best of both worlds, IMO.

As far as consoles, all the ones I would recommend have already been recommended.

I didn't care for Jade Empire of KOTOR.
Thanks in advance.
Atari had 2 really fun RPGs;
Gateway to Apshai, and The Temple of Apshai

PC/Mac; Diablo 1&2, Exile/Avernum 1-3 (from Spiderweb software), Geneforge, Baldurs Gate 1&2, Dungeon Master 2 (that is a fun old classic). Prince of destruction

Nintendo; Zelda Series

As you can tell, my favorite RPGs belong to the Final Fantasy series (hence, 'ffman'). FF VII got me started into RPGs altogether, and I've beaten 7-10, as well as FF Tactics. I've played a few of the pre-FFVII RPGs, but I've had little luck with them. Other current RPGs I've been playing are LOTR: The Third Age, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, FF X (I've beaten, but playing more), and Fable.

I liked Wild Arms for the PS1 and of course FF7, if you like collecting weapons/magic/stuff, you like depth of characters/story, this is a GREAT game, but I'm thinking you don't much care for Turn based RPG's and are more of an action adventure RPG guy like me, God Of War is a blast (there is a Mature rating and there is nudity in this game, which is tastelss and useless if you ask me, but its only one part of the game) if you can get past this fact and just play the game its a BLAST! The graphics are incredible and the fighting is just amazing. Oh yeah and there is a game named Suidoken I think for the PS1 I liked it better than Wild Arms You all should go to EB games and try to find this one and check it out, it's great, also Beyond the Beyond was pretty cool.
