Ah... what is your favourite hymn - Tsarina, Tsarina - what are you doing?!:)

Hard question - I don't know.

Christ is risen, Ti ipermaho, Trisagion hymns, Psalms (especially PS136/7 )... etc.

Probably, Christ is risen from the dead!

Nothing. :p

Psalm 136 is the " by waters of Babylon" psalm right?

I've hear this hymn in byzantine music at church, i really like it, and it's a long one! However, i have another version for you -
Clicky
LoL.

I like them all :D but especially:

O Gladsome Light
The Angel Cried
Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent? (Да молчит всякая плоть)
Anything in Tone 6 :)

I've only ever been to OCA/Slavic churches, so I don't know many Byzantine hymns. I think the ones I like have already been mentioned!

The Angel Cried, Slavic Version

The four part harmony to "Χριστος ανέστη εκ νεκρον,θανάτο θάνατον πατήσας,και τους εν τους μνήμασι, ζωὴν χαρισάμενος!"

A four-part harmony version of the 1st Antiphon of Pentecost, "Your good Spirit will guide me in an upright land," which I haven't been able to find since moving away from Tulsa, but still, it's gorgeous.

Be Thou My Vision, pre-8th century Irish hymn.

phew...where does one begin? :)

"Εξέδυσάν με": From Great Thursday. It's the hymn where the lyrics show Christ speaking about the tortures and humiliation His persecutors inflicted upon him.
a version by G. Chatzichronoglou (ok quality)

Then again I absolutely love the hymns from the Holy Week. The alleluiarion for example...
by G. Chatzichronoglou (excellent quality)

or the tearfully wonderful apostichon of Great Tuesday:
by G.Chatzichronoglou (excellent quality)
The third one...at 3:33... those words...that melody... combined with the presence of the bridegroom Christ...

And here is the wonderful "Τις Θεός Μέγας" cited by our Prof. Chrysostomos :) (exc. quality)
by G. Chatzichronoglou

"Τον νυμφώνα Σου βλέπω":
by G. Chatzichronoglou (exc. quality)

Or how about *all* the hymns of the Resurrection?
Like "Δεύτε λάβετε φως" (come receive light):
by N.Milionis (eh quality!)

"Κατευθυνθήτω η προσευχή μου": This is Michael's favourite! Also one of mine. I prefer the version used in the Pre-Sanctified liturgy but I couldn't find that one :p
by Th. Vasilikos ("eh, ok" quality!)
---------------------
OK, those are the ones I could actually found a sample of...
for my absolute favourites:
"Κύριε ερχόμενος προς το πάθος", from Great Monday, where Christ is talking to His disciples before the Pasion and *He* comforts *them*. My hair just stood up only by remembering it...
...and
"Aναστάσεως Ημέρα" (The day of the resurrection) as well as "Χριστός Ανέστη" (Christ is Risen).

These three usually bring me to my senses whenever things are going bad.

Then these gems of music and poetry:

"Μακάριος Ανήρ": The first psalm, set to music and performed by the monks of Simonopetra monastery of Mt. Athos.

"Κατευθυνθήτω η προσευχή μου", from the pre-sanctified liturgy. Already mentioned it, had to emphasize!

"Toν συνάναρχον Λόγον", (the co-eternal Word, roughly), in plagal first. It is also the melody used for the apolitikion of St. Catherine of Sinai, which we chant at every liturgy at my church (as it is under the Sinai church) and I absolutely love it.

"Ti ipermacho", already mentioned.
...gotta stop here or I'll be writing forever.

tons, tons... I *love* byzantine music. It is simply the most perfect music possible in this world. Byzantine style, Greek, with all the proper ison naturally. Biased? Who? Me? Nonsense! :p

I *love* Byzantine music too. However, i do like "some" Russian style music. I love the Russian style Cherubic and The Angel Cried hymn.

There are so many great ones :). I will do my top five, but they are all amazing in my book.

Christos Anesti:

I Zoe en Tapho from Holy Friday:

So Son Kyrie (apolytikion of the Holy Cross):

The Trisagion:

The Plousioi Epthefsan (Rich men have gone poor, from Psalm 33 sung during the artoklasia) I cannot find a recording of it, except for this samle clip from Liturgica:
http://www.liturgica.com//mp3/AB002/AB002_03.mp3

These are definitely my top five. But I have to include this MP3 file:

http://212.146.105.129/media/mp3-psaltica/Meteora Ioasaf/Meteora Ioasaf 6.mp3

I am not actually sure what it is. All I understand is Agioi tou theou Presvepsete Yper Hmon (Saints of God Pray for us). I really like this part.
