Actually, he was only ever an Archbishop (and then only a titular Archbishop). Would have been a good candidate for the red hat though.

I'm not a fan of Cardinal Burke. He's spoken out on some issues, but he's done so badly, IMO, just baldly stating that such-and-such is wrong, rather than teaching why in any meaningful manner.
I'm not sure there's anyone truly outstanding in the current crop of cardinals. I quite like Cardinal Keith O'Brien, but I wouldn't say he was a favourite. I feel marginally more warmly toward him than I do most of the rest.
