  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

How did you choose the church your currently attend? What influences your decision making process?

Is it your local church - i.e. the church geographically the closest to your home?
If not, why do you not attend your local church?

My answers to the above:

I attend our local church i.e the one that it is physically closest to my home

My parents chose it twenty years ago due to the welcome we received. It's not my parish church, but still in my town. They have since left due to theological drift in the denomination but I'm hanging on in there. I don't want to leave - it'd be painful - but I may have to.

I'd prefer to go to a local church but some of the important things I'd consider:

- Is God glorified?
- Do they believe the Bible (i.e. doctrine)?
- Do they love each other?
- Is there a focus on evangelism?

It's the nearest gospel believing church.

There were two nearer churches, one a bit stuffy and one completely unhinged which has since folded up.

So - is it wrong to go to a "bad" church? What is bad church? Well, for the sake of argument let's use the inverse of what Andrew says above:

- Doesn't glorify God
- Doesn't believe the Bible (i.e. doctrine)?
- Doesn't love each other?
- No focus on evangelism?

As a Christian who believes that these things are important is it wrong to go to a church where they are absent?

Like Paul, God revealed to me what salvation is and that just because peple "preach Jesus" means nothing, the bible warns of "another Jesus", and many coming to Jesus calling Him Lord etc being turned away.

I knew I need to be in a church that is faithful tio what Jesus set up in Acts 2.
I found a small one in Bristol, we joined a larger one and I moved to the London area to get more involved.

So, the key question here is - do you search and find a church as you describe above i.e. faithful to Acts?

Or, do you become a positive influence and help a church to become as you describe above???

Yes.

If they are not faithful to Acts they are not faithful on salvation, they can't even get the beginning right. The baptism in the Spirit is how people become a member of God's church (1 Cor. 12:13, Acts 11:14-18). most "churches" can't even accept that!

You can speak to the people that go to these places without having to grieve the Holy Spirit within you listening to all their false concepts of salvation. You will find that the leaders especially don't want to change and they certainly won't you trying to change from within. You are only in Surrey, some people from our West London meeting live or work there, if you want to meet for a chat that can easily be arranged.

Our church is a 2 min walk away, although I am currently involved in planting a new church which will meet on a Sun afternoon, however we will continue to attend our local church on a Sun morning. :)

The church of humanity welcomes anyone and attracts anyone who has morals, ethics, standards. It's a really welcoming `church.`

One that is singing all the way to hell due to it's sin and rebellion - hence Jesus is the reason for the season. Jesus is the only way back to God the Creator if we trust Him alone for salvation :)

What a lovely message to send out.

Yep, and biblical too...

Jn 3: 16 - 18 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

I want to say a booming voice from heaven said such and such ... but the truth is that it was the nearest Catholic church so I chose it.

Pretty much failed in that respect then eh? Even though he's had a couple of thousand years to do SOMETHING.
