  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, there is plenty of evidence for a young earth. Check out http://www.answersingenesis.org like someone else mentioned, and http://www.christiananswers.net/creation/home.html. Paladin, I also rely on faith. However, I find it amazing that there is so much evidence for the fact that God created the entire universe in 6 literal 24 hour days! Also, check out Genesis Chapter 1 of the King James Version that I copied and pasted from www.biblegateway.com:

Genesis 1
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.
12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Can you see how it keeps saying "And the evening and the morning were the sixth day." for example in the 31 verse? To me, it is quite clear that the entire universe was created in 6 literal 24 hour days. God said it and I believe it!

There is NO credible physical evidence for a young earth. All of the points in the web sites you have listed have been refuted many times over by real scientists with real degrees (in the subject in question) from real schools.

Meaning that the people who put these lists together often have mail order degrees from non-existent schools, or their degree is not in a subject related to the subject matter in question.

1. The Church Fathers didn't take Genesis 100% literally; that didn't come until long later
2. The Church, inspired by the Holy Spirit, proclaimed the Bible as containing everything necessary for salvation and authoritative in matters of doctrine and faith. This excludes science and history.
3. The Hebrew writing style of Genesis implies a non-literal reading according to most Hebrew linguists.

In any case, the OP wanted evidence of YEC. Can you provide him with it?

Honestly Ron, I could care less what some secular scientist says about how the universe came to be. I believe the Bible. It is my final authority and I believe God!

Honestly Holly, I could care less what a bunch of non-degreed people who are in this to make money say about the universe being young.

If you want to say that the Bible says the earth is young, and it only looks old, fine. At least that is an honest interpretation. But don't listen to all these YEC so called scientists who are lying in the name of God.

there is no physical evidence for a young earth.

Thanks:)

You must remember that science works by falsification. Unless your theory can stand up to the test of not being falsified (and YEC has been falsified ad nauseum) it doesn't matter how much evidence you have in support of a theory.

I just noticed here that we are NOT talking about "how the universe came to be", we are talking about how old the earth is. Two totally different subjects.

That's one interpretation of the text. It occurs to me that perhaps you should look at the important spiritual message of the entire story rather than looking at each sentence. By focusing too much on the details you're losing the message. Think of it as reading a story with a message. The story itself isn't as important as the message it contains.

Ron, I don't know about you, but I'm not here to argue. I only stated my own opinion. Perhaps I did get a little bit rude and I apologize if I came off that way. I did not intend to be rude. It's just that everywhere I look, people are putting me and my beliefs down just because I believe in a literal 6 day 24 hour day creation. Honestly, I don't think the Young Earth Creationists are lying either. Perhaps you think they do but that is your own opinion. Most of the stuff I have read makes enough sense to me. Honestly Ron, I don't care if you are a Young Earth Creationist or not. That's not what matters. What matters is that we are brothers and sisters in Christ and we should try not to argue over simple things like this. I tell you what, I'll believe what I believe and you believe what you believe. When we all get to Heaven, we'll find out who (if any of us) are right. Perhaps all of us are wrong. I do not know. But anyway, thank you for posting with me. Talk to you later!

Holly, there is some truth in what you say.

But as I stated earlier some things are not opinion. Saying the clear daytime sky is green with purple spots is not an example of opinion - it is an example of a statement that is factually wrong.

You cannot claim 'the sky is green with purple spots' is anything but an error or a lie.

In the last few decades there seems to have risen up a acceptance that anything anyone says has equal validity because it is all just an opinion. This may help peoples psyches and to not feel inadequate but it unfortunately is a path to foolishness.

The Earth is only 6000 years or so old is a factually wrong statement on the same footing (and logic) as the 'sky is green with purple spots' analogy above. They are not opinions they are delusions or lies.

Sorry, I didn't take offense. I probably shouldn't have begun a post using the "Honestly Holly" phrase, that was just escalating it.

I had no intention of putting you down, I just think certain beliefs you hold are incorrect.

As to the YEC people (meaning ICR, AIG, and so on), whether or not they are liars is my opinion. but that they are indeed wrong is a fact. Their ideas on science have been falsified numerous times and places. It is my personal opinion that they know their ideas are wrong, and they say them anyway because they don't think their intended audience will catch on. And that makes them liars in my book.

When I get to heaven, there are a lot of things I want to find out, and this topic is way down on the list.

Ron
