  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I watched these videos about 2 years after I graduated from my private Christian high
school...

I learned more from youtube videos than I did from my Bob Jones University school books...

I was NEVER taught what a phylogenetic tree was... nor was I taught much about geology and fossils...
Now 4 years later I know why!

Now I kind of want to go burn the place down.

There are 3 ways to convince people of your point of view.

1. Facts and Reason -impossible for creationists.
2. Violence (forcing them to believe) -not very acceptable.
3. Ridicule -make fun of them till they go away.

I chose the 3rd option:

You probably ridicule creationists but love Bertrand Russel.

I had to look up Bertrand Russel since I wasn't familiar with any of his work.

and well, he seems like a very logical man. I actually DO love one of his quotes:

"If something is true, you should believe it and if it isn't, you shouldn't; and if you can't find out whether it's true or isn't then you should SUSPEND JUDGEMENT."

Yeah, it kind of stinks when you find out you've been lied to. Sorry you had to go through that and 're-educate' yourself.

This one is a Poe worthy parody of YECs.

I mentioned Bertie Russel because of his philosophy of Last Thursdayism, where the universe was created last Thursday complete with false memories. Although he was a devout rationalist and leading atheist, he said Last Thursdayism remaines an irrefulable possibility (if I remember rightly).

The key there being that it is a possibility. It is also a possibility that I created the universe (complete in all ways), and erased my memory of it, the instant you started reading my post. Though that is highly unlikely.

Edit: Some grammatical errors.

Yeah there's just as much "verifiable evidence" that Elendur created the universe yesterday as there is that God created it 6000 years ago.

You can't use non-provable conjecture in ANY healthy debate.

As Muhammed said "Untruth is the epidemic of speech". So if we want to avoid such disease, we ought to try and restrain ourselves from speculation and untestable theorems and stay with what we are more sure about?
Isn't that what's science is about?

I suppose so. I have no qualms that science is a reliable method, if not 100% then highly credible. I am not a YEC but do not want to go an a scientistic "crusade" against them. Live and let live, and besides it can be philosophically interesting.
