Yeah, yeah I know there are a few food threads happening at once in Singles but what's one more really? There was a time when the only the we could agree on was food, so :p

This thread is about unique places to eat only. Not like McDonalds, or some fancy shmancy restaurant.....Unless its underwater, or maybe in a haunted back alley restaurant (wow that went downhill fast.)

So where is somewhere unique you've been to eat or somewhere on your bucket list?

I actually would love to travel to all 50 states (and even out of country) to visit hole in the wall restaurants and unique tourist nifty spots. So I'll be using this thread quite a lot.

Here are a few neat places in North Carolina I found! :)

This is a double decker bus restaurant in Asheville. It's called Double D's and it's a coffeehouse to be exact. Their menu has all the basic cafe things and apparently they serve desserts but they don't show them on their menu.

Another cool place is :
salem-tavern.jpg

Old Salem's Tavern. In Old Salem it's back in the "olden days" where you can go and churn your own butter, and make coffee a really old fashioned way, lol But also there is an eatery there that looks really tasty. Also I heard it's haunted, so there's that. :p

About half an hour from me is the Blist Hill Victorian Town at Ironbridge Gorge. It's a large open air museum, reconstructed village where you go back in time to over 100 years ago. No cars, just horses and carts. You can explore the streets and pay for goods using "shillings". Plenty of places to buy food and eat and even watch it being made. A sweet shop, a bakery, chippy, a pub. You can even go to school and have a lesson!

Is that somebody serenading the people while they're eating?
Would people even care to be catered like this? I've experienced this at a few church functions but only during holidays. Just brainstorming.

Barndiva Restaurant in Healdsburg, CA. Even though it's just off the town square of this very snobbish and ritzy little town, it's made up to look like a barn from the outside:

But inside it's really decked out...

Some rich people have their weddings there on the patio (it's a very pricey place; I've only been there once many years ago because I used to know a guy who worked there):

Kind of a neat little gimmick, and actually fitting with the general feel of the area, since everywhere outside of town is rolling vineyards and other agricultural land, so there are tons of barns and the like out there in the valley that surrounds the town. (The town was sustained by fruit picking and canning before the wineries started picking up in the early 1990s, and exponentially so after the success of the film Sideways, which was filmed in the area.)

Greenwood is a small and rinky dink town but for some reason we have quite a few places to eat. (about 10 in all maybe more)
This place may be more appealing to a younger person (even though older people do eat there)

Maybe not the strangest I've been to, but definitely unique. The Franklin House is a historic tavern which continues to operate as a restaurant to this day. on the second floor you can eat on a balcony and they have a banquet room where murder mystery dinners are held. Haven't gotten to try that yet! The owner and hostess is very nice and she often goes around lighting a little tea candle for each table in the evening.

I usually end up in the Schaeffer Room which has taught me that a black room can actually look somehow nice and not dim at all! Not sure I'd be brave enough to try it at home, but...

Noma

The Copenhagen restaurant by the incredibly gifted Chef Ren Redzepi. His approach to food is otherworldly. It was detailed in Hungry, by Jeff Gordinier. I was awestruck by his process and know that's a stop I'll have to make.

I want to eat at the Pokemon Cafe in Tokyo at the Pokemon Center. I went to the Pokemon Center but we didn't get reservations for the cafe so all we could do was look through the window.

Haha yes it is. I suppose if you went there knowing what to expect you'd be cool with it.

That looks absolutely amazing! I would definitely want to eat there and check out the town. So gorgeous.

I'm scared of heights but would love to try & conquer my fears by dining in the sky :bbrr:

Nope, no sirree bob! haha I mean it IS beautiful but I'd be too panicked to enjoy myself.

That looks so cool!! I've never done a murder mystery dinner but I would enjoy trying it. That would be so neat. If you ever do it you'll have to let us know how it went.

I've never actually tried this, myself.

That would be so fun to do in my opinion.

Speaking of underwater, I would love to check out the Michelin star underwater Norwegian restaurant dubbed "Under". I'm sure it would be quite the experience. :fish:

The underwater aspect looks so neat. Especially being in Norway but they gotta put more food on the plate, lol. Also idk what that one thing is but it looks too much like a spider for me to eat. haha

Ooh that would be really neat! I'd do that, even if I'm not into Pokemon haha

Idk why but I'd really love to do this, haha. It's in Alabama and it's a restaurant that use to be a jail... and you can reserve a jail cell to eat in. Also the food sounds good and looks amazing:
