  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How many times have you gone to use something electrical and it does not work, you check the fuse, and all the other obvious things only for some else to point out it helps if you switch it on.

How many times are we plugged into Gods spirit and wonder why things aren't happening we start to check our faith etc., have you checked to see that you are switched on.

I've often had the same kind of thinking about this..... we can also ask the question "are we REALLY plugged in???" Sometimes we can truly believe we are 100% plugged in....when in fact, we are barely plugged in. Just as an appliance can work sometimes when the plug isn't fully plugged in, I believe we can be in the same situation, where it "appears" to everyone around us, that we ARE fully plugged in. However, there are MANY risks involved in such a situation as this, both in the physical sense and the spiritual.

Bottom line: get plugged in.....stay plugged in......and get switched on. (P.S. ~ I believe the "switch" is being filled with the Holy Spirit. I don't know how the OP would define what the switch is, just my opinion.)

I'd have thought so too, except that he said:

So I'm still wondering - if I'm plugged in already, why would I not be switched on?

Sometimes it is very difficult to explain meanings......but this is how I see it. Just as ....say a lamp ...is plugged in...and has ALL the available power to shed light into a room.....we, as Christians- because we accepted the saving power of Jesus Christ, have the power available to us to shed light. HOWEVER.......just because we are plugged in....doesn't mean our (HIS) light is shining. We have to depend on the Holy Spirit to TURN the switch on so that our light will shine.

Does any of that make sense?

P.S............Oh....and I meant to say...............There are many Christians that are "plugged in" because they truly gave their heart to Jesus....AND they have the potential of shedding light in this world.....BUT....they aren't Spirit-filled. They try everything they know to do to try to shine the light...but its futile until the Holy Spirit is there to flip the switch. ;)

I would say that switch is something called "OBEDIENCE" :D

Because, we can plug an electrical appliance into the outlet, but not have any power running through it, yet the power is right there and ready to be tapped into simply by the turn of a switch.

Same goes with us. We as Christians are "plugged" into God and His spirit, with His power, strength, glory, etc RIGHT THERE at our "beckon", but until we switch into "obedience" how can we expect to be able to actual use that power source?
