So have they signed you up for Sunday organ playing yet?
Oh, I've been doing that on occasion ever since I showed up at the church. The pastor's wife normally does it though, and I'm afraid I don't have the time in my schedule to put in the practice to do a really good job as a regular organist anyway. I'll just play a prelude or something whenever I feel like it.

I also showed up for church choir and declared I was an alto (which is what I usually sing in semi-professional choirs). Two weeks of that and the choir director told me I was singing soprano instead. The next Sunday, when the choir sang for a baptism, one of the parishioners made the comment that the choir sounded great, but the sopranos overshadowed the guys! I should switch back to alto...

No, I haven't. I did meet the priest at a concert once though - does that count? :p (The Moscow Patriarchate Choir came to perform here earlier this year - no way I was missing that!)
Eh, close enough. ;)

2 monasteries and a Greek shrine (in St. Augustine). I finally got a chance to stop by the shrine on my annual trip to St. Augustine this year (it's one of my favorite cities to just take a day trip to), and discovered that they have a terrific selection of icons for sale. They'll have a permanent customer now...I have a soft spot for icons, and am always looking to get more. (Do I have you more jealous now? :p )
More jealous than having a pair on monasteries so close? No way. I'm still trying to arrange my first visit to one.

What Icons do you currently have? Do you keep an Icon corner / altar of any sort, or are they "just art" to you?

You know, when I first came to CF, I had the folks in TAW betting on when I would go EO, and it hasn't happened yet, and I have no intention of doing so anytime soon. I have to live up to my reputation as the crazy Lutheran with the icon obsession, you know. ;)
I'm just happy you're out of the ELCA. I literally breathed a sigh of relief when I read your OP. Hey, you might be a "crazy Lutheran" :p, but I still care a bunch for you.

These pics were taken a few months ago. Since then, I've given away one of the Theotokos, and added a Transfiguration and another Pantokrator (and several more hymnals and prayer books...). I also have a crucifix hanging on my wall.

They're more than "just art" to me, but I don't put as much emphasis on them as the EO do either.

those are beautiful, mel...when i went to ukraine last i wanted to get an icon, but i couldn't decide which one, lol, plus, i couldn't afford the bigger ones (i wanted more than the smallest size)...maybe next time!

does your new church do anything with "thoughts of faith"? that is the group that does the VBS in ukraine...they also do medical, dental, and life-services (pro life) missions
