Ep 6:
"The evil day" could be idiomatic. Prov 16:
Paul wrote about a daily routine of opposing evil. In this sense, every day was an evil day.10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
Why singular "day"?12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
"The evil day" could be idiomatic. Prov 16:
The singular noun referred to a particularly intense bad day. We need to stand firm against it. The earlier context suggested that every day was a bad day anyway. We need to stand firm against that as well. By "the evil day", In this passage, I don't think Paul had in mind a unique day of evil. I wouldn't read into it much. I would put more weight on the word "stand".4 The LORD has made everything for its own purpose, Even the wicked for the day of evil.
