This statement was practiced by the Samurai of Old, and as Christians, we should uphold this. I have a dear friend who doesn't know God the same way I do. She believes you can be Christian AND Buddhist at the same time. I however was taught, "you cannot serve two masters." I love her as my nakama, but she is misled, and as much as I love her as my nakama, I serve my one master Jesus Christ above all. You can't be Buddhist and serve Buddha and also claim to love Christ and serve Him too. Here is a link to many reasons why we cannot be both: http://evidencetobelieve.net/buddhism-vs-christianity/
In a sense, we are not perfect and of course we fall short, but I stand for righteousness and use my God-fearing Blade for Him most High. My heart is not for Buddha, but for Christ. I don't know what i would do without that Love and Salvation promised by Jesus. A verse comes to mind when I think of serving. Matthew 6:24 "you cannot serve two masters. You will either love one and hate the other...you cannot serve both God and Money." This verse doesn't limit the second master as only money. I believe this is a mere example of how our human minds are going to have to choose. Replace "money" with "Buddha" or "Allah" or "idols." Idols are not just stone statues that stick in the ground and sit there for us to look at, it means anything that seperates us from God. Those could mean anything. For me, I feel I have my priorities in this order: God is first then Friends and Family at the same level. Everything else is under that. Reason friends and family are on the same level; I stand for what's right no matter who it is. Example, if my friends are in the wrong and my kazoku (family) tells me, they are leading me wrong, then I will listen to my family. Vice versa, if my family is wrong an my friends are right, I will stand for what's right. I feel serving God is most important and standing for what's right is a way of serving God. Everyone is a broken Human and we need something bigger than ourselves to save us. This is why Jesus was sacrificed for our salvation which is PROMISED!! No matter what bad things anyone has done, as long as they accept the Grace of God, and the fact Jesus is Lord and Savior, they will be saved. No other master promises this. Not Allah or Buddha or Confucius or any other "religious" figure. Don't call what I follow a religion when religion is imperfect us going up and failing to reach perfect. It is a loving relationship with Him most High. He came down to us and even though we are imperfect and sinful, He loves us like no other! Amen!!
