  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yet another music downloading thread...

Why would you need to download it if you already have the CD? Is it scratched or something?
I own the CD but I want to put the music on my xanga. The only way to do that is the have the music on the computer to start with, and I can't figure out any way to get music from my CD onto the computer, short of playing it in a CD player and recording it with a microphone, which I think will make it have a really bad sound.

Just rip it with Windows Media Player in mp3 format. Make sure under the options menu that you select mp3.

rip from cd using cdex from cdexos dot sourceforge dot net... fast, easy, free.

footnote: don't rip other people's cds, only your own. whether we agree with the copyright laws or not, romans 13:1 - 7 still applies.

why if my friend buys it and says i can rip it...why not. Yea, CDEX is amazing!

The thing with downoading the music is the more a specific song is downloaded, the more popular that song gets, once that song reaches a certain popularity, it is widely distibuted in seconds throughout all the major download programs, Kazaa, Napster and the like.

Downloading is stealing. It hurts the artists severely and it's pretty depressing. If I worte a song and sold it to people and all of the sudden people started stealing my stuff and downloading it, then I'd feel pretty ******.

I don't feel it is stealing. In my case, it has HELPED bands. If it weren't for Napster, I never would have bothered to check out my now favorite band -- Radiohead. Meaning I never would have bought merchandise, albums, etc. The more I listen to a band, the more likely I am to buy their merchandise, and half the bands I listen to are thanks to downloading their music. It doesn't have to "hurt" the artists - the Grateful Dead ENCOURAGED bootlegging of their music, and made their money off of merchandising and concerts. Its like Moby said, "Maybe it is time the record died." I feel it is. I really don't feel like paying $15-$20 for a CD when 90% of that money goes to some rich corporate executive whom exploits people. Just my thoughts!

In your opinion, is it OK to download a song if you already own the CD that it's on?

what would be the point if you already have the song on the cd....I take all my cds and rip them to my harddrive to put on my Dell DJ if thats what your talking about....and there are about a zillion threads relating to download-ing music...its quite anoying...if you feel guilty then don't do it.
