Hi! My name is Ryan and I am a Christian. I have a friend that is a Jehovah's Witness. He does not believe that Yeshua is God. I am asking for help and supporting Scripture that any of you may have to point him to the Truth.

I came to the Messianic Judaism threads to make this post because I believe there is a higher understanding of the Hebrew Scriptures here. I am aware that there are verses in the Hebrew Scriptures that point to Yeshua being God. One such example is Isaiah 9:6 in the KJV (Isaiah 9:5 in JPS).

The problem (don't take this the wrong way) with Jehovah's Witnesses is that they have their own version of the Scriptures (the New World Translation) and will use it at all costs to back up their belief that Yeshua is (in their opinion) not God. It is my opinion that if my friend can see some examples from the Hebrew Scriptures (not necessarily in Hebrew, but I hope you get what I mean) then I will be able to help him better. He can't deny Hebrew Scripture concerning the matter, correct?(not to mention the New Testament!) Most of the support that the Jehovah's Witnesses have for Yeshua not being God is drawn from the New Testament which shows Yeshua from the perspective of him as the Son of God andthe Father, also.

What they fail to comprehend are the verses that show Yeshua from the perspective as being the Father, as the verse above points out. I would appreciate any verses from the Hebrew Scriptures very much to support that Yeshua is God in the flesh! I just want to see my friend pointed toward the Truth... :(

Thanks for your help, guys (and gals.) If any moderators find this thread to be too controversial, please let me know ASAP so I can modify it. Remember, this is not a thread to say "Yeshua is God" or "Yeshua is not God." If you believe that Yeshua is not God, I ask that you do not interfere. I respect your opinion. I am just asking for Scripture to point my friend toward the Truth. Thanks!

I like Zech 12:10; Zech 14:3,4 (YHWH goes forth and His feet stand on the Mount of Olives); Zech 14:9 coupled with Is 9:6,7 (It is the Son who reigns forever yet in that day YHWH is king over all the earth); and Ps 45:6.

The phrase translated as everlasting or eternal father is 'av`ad in Hebrew and can be understood as father of eternity or father forever. The first possibility would imply that the son is the one who creates and controls eternity. The second possibility views the king as father of the nation, hence this one is to reign forever.

Surely you folks have other scriptures to share that support the deity of Yeshua !!! Let's have'em!!

But also be sure to keep the thread on track...... Questions about a visitor's denominational background might best be done in PM as to do it here could well sidetrack the thread and cause rule violations :) unwittingly.....

Ryan, today has been a busy day on the forum with some housekeeping issues, AND it is the day of preparation for Shabbat - so the responses may be a bit slow in coming. As well, with tomorrow being Shabbat several of our members do not work on the computer during Shabbat...... so it may be Sunday before you get many bites ;)

That would make today Erev Shabbat, right? (I hope I'm right on this one):cool: Thanks for the update. I do a lot of studying at www.JewsforJesus.org so I actually know what Shabbat is (or so I think.) That may sound strange to you, but I bet that none of my Christian friends know what Shabbat is, sadly. They know of the "Sabbath," but not "Shabbat" lol.
