it's binary code, you know, computer talk...
the first 1 is actually equal to 1, and the second 1 is equal to 2. If there was a third 1, it would be equal to 4. Every numbers value doubles as you go up. Therefore, you use 0's and 1's.
Example:
0 1 1 1 0 0 1 what you read
1 2 4 8 16 32 64
