  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Yep, another masturbation topic.

Is masturbation a sin?

  • It's not such a bad thing to do, just try not to be creative with your thoughts.

  • It is wrong, keep your hands away from there!

Alright, so here it is. I don't know about you ladies out there, but men have sperm build up in their testicles. In time, when this sperm builds up, and fills the mans testicles, sexual urges become more powerful over time. Without any release, over a period depending on their libido, could be a few days, a week, to even once daily, they become very tense, irritable, and just plain uncomfortable, and even the most unattractive female suddenly becomes attractive, not only that, lust becomes more difficult to control, to the point where your mind is rampant with lust, even watching TV becomes a chore, you see a beautiful woman on television and there are those thoughts, and it seems no matter how hard you fight it, they are there and you cant get rid of them. It's not really perverse thoughts, but you do look at even the most unattractive woman with desire.

So, what is a guy to do? I pray - and over time even that doesn't seem to work anymore. The "feeling of a ticking time bomb waiting to explode inside" is there, no matter how much I beg Jesus to help me, and until that bomb finally detonates, I suffer all day with the feeling of lust and desire. So, my question is this - is masturbation really wrong when the thoughts of lust and desire can be controlled during the act? My mind may stray to the point maybe once or twice during the act to something perverted, but only for a very brief split second, to which I manage to gain control over it and continue until the deed is done. It's not like I focus my mind on anything perverted for more than a second, when it hits me, I immediately change my thoughts to something else. Is this really as bad as desire and lusting all day long?

The bible mentions things such as beastiality, incest, homosexual acts, but mentions nothing about masturbation. People will bring up Onan in topics asking about masturbation as a way to demonize the act, but Onan "pulled out" while having sex with his wife so he would not get her pregnant, when God commanded him to impregnate his wife, so he disobeyed God, he was not masturbating. If masturbation is a sin, why did God not have a verse in the bible saying something like "and thou shalt not lay thine hand upon thy rod, and women likewise thou shalt not perform thine same act" okay, that wasn't a very good verse, I probably didn't even use the thines, and thous correctly and you sure can tell God would never use me to write his Word, but you get my point.

So, what to do, what to do? I'm about as confused as you, did God intend this as something for us not to do? Hey, I'm a poet, and I didn't even know it, so is masturbation a sin? If it is so please show it, I don't like going day after day uncomfortable and grouchy, but is playing with yourself naughty? Okay, so that didn't really rhyme too well, but I'm worried and I don't want to go to Hell, why did God create our bodies this way it seems that I'm getting even crazier day after day.

Well, that's that. Feel free to comment, reply, whatever. God bless you guys and gals. Have a good one.

I suspect this might be better in a guys only area since it is directed at guys (?)

Anyway, I can empathise with you, but am pretty sure that sperm doesn't 'build up' indefinately and cause you to sin. If not used, the body disposes of it itself. I would suggest what you are describing is more like an addiction. The answer to an addiction is not to keep getting 'fixes' as it will never be enough.

And as you say, afterwards you feel guilty. I would suggest that you know it is wrong (sin) even if the Bible doesn't specifically list it. It takes you away from your focus on God and that focus is precisely what will combat the desires of the flesh. The more time you spend with God, the more disciplined you become, and the more times you can walk away from sin.

It is a war and God helps you win an increasing amount of battles on this front.

That's what I've found so far anyway in my own life, and I have a long way to go yet!

Self control, eh? Where can I get some of that? The holy spirit is supposed to help with this, isn't it? I guess either it doesn't yet exist in me yet, or it does but it's working slowly. Actually, I don't even think the holy spirit is in me yet, not sure why. Kinda worries me. Actually, yeah, it does worry me. So, what exactly do I need to do to get the holy spirit to take up residence in me?

I didn't know how to answer you but have been reading a book called Bitesize Theology by Peter Jeffery and read the chapter on the Holy Spirit this morning.

I can't quote it due to the legal notice at the front but shall paraphrase:

The Holy Spirit draws us to Jesus (and salvation through him) by convicting us of our sin. We realise how often we sin and how much this hurts God. That leads us to repentance and then to salvation. The Holy Spirit then keeps working in us and helps us display the 'fruit of the spirit' one of which is self-control. We behave more like Jesus and that is how true Christians should become.

"No-one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him" - John 6:44

God sends the Holy Spirit, so I suppose you should pray for God to send him to you. I believe I see both the presence of the Holy Spirit in me (by convicting me of my sin) and the fruit (by giving me more self-control).

You seem sceptical but God really plays an active part in our lives if we let him, and given that you are asking these questions, I pray that the Holy Spirit will convict you of sin and then help you resist temptation.

I happened to read your post. Please visit online ministry Setting Captives Free and take up their Way of Purity course. Jesus Christ is the only Way. Only the power of the Holy Spirit can set you free. Jesus Christ led me to this website and set me free from 8 years of bondage to sin. If the Son therefore shall set you free, you shall be free indeed. May God lead you to victory so that you live for His Glory!!

Masturbation is a SIN. Only the Lord Jesus Christ can deliver you. When I took up this 60 day online course from Setting Captives Free, I learnt that when you gratify yourself, Satan derives worship from that. It is idolatry where you worship yourself. That's why the Word of God teaches us to put our flesh to death. The Spirit gives life. I pray that you find true freedom in Jesus Christ. It's been two years since I took up the online course, and our Lord Jesus Christ has completely set me free. Glory to God!!

I've been reading the bible lately again and I've always wondered about masturbation. My viewpoint is this: We are born sinners. We will always sin since we as humans are not capable of pure righteousness. I think God gave us the ability to touch but he also gave us free will. And I think that since he gave us free will it gives us the choice to touch or not to touch. I think that as with anything addictive it can become a problem. Gambling, masturbation, smoking cigarettes... etc all are problems when they become addictive. If you find yourself purely lusting after the "finish" then that is a problem. You want to make yourself feel good without glorifying God. I think that if you don't lust much after a certain person or whatever and focus on feeling good and not necessarily always getting to the "end" of it (for females included) I think that is more Godly than obsessing about the act just for the end result. God gave you the ability to touch just like he gave us the ability to stand on two feet. It's all in how you use it.

That said, I think it's best to try to avoid doing it most of the time. But if you notice that you truly get irritable and are generally a bad person when that happens, set up a schedule and do it only during those times such as once a week or once a month or whatever. It's better than spending 4 hours in your room doing it each day because it became an addiction.

Actually, the longer you go without the more discipline you build up, and the easier it becomes to abstain from doing it. The urges don't go away, but they become quieter. You have to remain prayerful about it too. Praying before you go to bed that you don' thave the urge to do it, and that He protects your mind as you sleep.

what you allow yourself to think about is critical to overcoming sexual addiction, thats what masturbation is a sexual addiction, regardless of all the banter on this subject whether its right or wrong, you yourself know that its an addiction you can't stop. the lie in your mind is that you can't stop, fight the lie!
