My priest says Y'all, but he is not Southern. He is Texan.

everyone has a different pronounciation for norfolk, virginia too....

not going into that one.........if smeone else wants to tackle it tho, by all means...

The correct pronunciation of Norfolk, at least for those of us who live around there, is obscene when spelled phonetically. If someone says Nor-foke or Nor-folk, we know they are from out of town.

What about those who pronounce Rollercoasters as "Rollacoastas."

Or even Rollycoasters.

Other great Texan words:

tump as in "Be careful y'all are gonna tump that glass over!"

(Since the object is the glass, not its contents, "spill" doesn't work. "Knock" is anticlimactic and lacks the force necessary in describing the impending catastrophe)


fixin as in "I'm fixin to go to Lubbock."

( A brilliant word that combines "going" with being "prepared". It conveys a feeling of determination, and urgency)
