  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Depends on why you have it. If it's a celebration of winter solstice and you are doing it as a reflection of old pagan practices, then it would probably go against the bible. If you just have a tree because it makes you happy and it's a tradition then no. The value and meaning you place on the symbol matters more then it's origin, I would guess.

I do have a Yule tree because it's a celebration of winter solstice and I am doing it as a reflection of old pagan practices. No, it's not sinful for me.

I always have a Christmas tree. The only time I didn't have one is when I was a single mom and couldn't afford one at that particular time. I was heartbroken for my girls. :(

The tree makes us happy, and gives me a sense of peace sitting in front of it at night being thankful for all the Lord has given me.

Eh, my mother was raised with Xmas trees up since her parents were Catholic. She still does it now, helps remind her of home. Makes the holiday season pop out more to her. I doubt I'll be having a tree when I'm out on my own. Maybe just a little statue of Bill Gates to put my stuff under..

Oh thank Bob for Giftma$.

I have a tree for no reason other than I love decorated x-mas trees. I dont look for the tree to bring me salvation or anything like that, and maybe I am considered pagan because I like how it looks and all, but I am not praying or bowing down to it.

I've always had one, just like I've always celebrated christmas. I don't get anything spiritual out of the celebration or symbol but have fun with both nonetheless.

In response to earlier post....my definition of sinful for this chat reflected on christian views. I don't personally believe in sins but I can see how something would be viewed as sinful by christians. I don't think pagan use of a tree is sinful whatsoever.

I really think the Jeremiah verse is talkin' about them carving the trees into GODS. Maybe our modern tradition had pagan origins, but not one person today associates it with paganism. NO one places a tree thinking of "Saturnalia" or "worshipping idols".

It saddens me to see "well-meaning-believers" discouraging Christmas celebrations; I always respond the same: Christmas is our FOOT-IN-THE-DOOR. As long as there are Christmas trees, as long as there is spiced cider and hot chest-nuts, as long as there are joyful songs of "Away In A Manger" and "O Holy Night" and "Joy To The World", the world will see the face of Jesus. Even if only once a year, the hearts of all mankind turn to Him. In an age when so many seek to BANNISH all-things-Christ from public exposure, Christmas and holly and manger-scenes and "Suddenly a multitude of angels appeared saying, 'Behold, I bring you glad tidings of great joy; for undo you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior; and His name is Christ the Lord. ...Peace on earth, and good will towards men with whom God is pleased!" --- these will, we hope and PRAY, remain forever THORNS IN THEIR SIDES!

As long as there is Christmas, there will always, in the hearts of some, be the understanding that "JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!"

:D

BTW, one of the funniest jokes I ever pulled, was "switching the Christmas tree". Everyone went home from a smallish artificial tree; but the next morning, it was at least 50% larger, REEKING of pine-smell, dropping needles, turning slowly on its motorized stand --- now scraping the ceiling and jutting out far into the room.

...and nobody noticed that it wasn't the ARTIFICIAL TREE!!!!! That was SO much fun...

Nobody is trying to banish "all-things-Christ from public exposure". That's just meaningless Christian propaganda. Removing preferential treatment of one religion in Government is not the same as removing it from public exposure. No one is preventing you from wearing your "Proud Christian" t-shirt in public, and the ACLU would be the first ones to defend your right to do so.

So let's can the meaningless and patently false rhetoric and stick to the subject at hand.

Day after thanksgiving, I hate re-arranging the furniture and putting it all up each year but I do it for the kid and wife. I'd just as soon go without, since we celebrate Christmas at her mom's anyway. As Christmas approaches, my heart softens each year I do end up enjoying it. I like a tree with a TON of lights, multicolor ones, nonblinking. Put on some Nat King Cole and make some chex mix and you've got one happy guy.

christmas trees aren't only just a tradition but to me it reminds me of the life of christ and the great time of the year that we honor every year..... it's the *******s who make christmas a commercial holiday (by calling it xmas). i get very homicidal when i hear Xmas used instead of Christmas...... to me it ignores the true meaning behind the whole celebration of christ's birth. and if i remember correctly it wasn't X that was born on that day but Christ who gave us the greatest gift of all......
