  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't really post often so I'm not an active member, but I think the current name sounds fine. If it's changed to something different, I think it would be better to still use the word "liberal" rather than "progressive". According to wikipedia, Liberal Christianity and Progressive Christianity are two different things, with the former referring to theological views, and the latter referring to some political views as well. The label "liberal" in itself can also have political connotations, but the more specific label "liberal Christianity" can be used to make the name less ambiguous, so that it doesn't imply any political restrictions.

In general, I think that CF is overregulated and over-controlled, much more than it needs to be. A name like "Whosoever Will, May Come" basically means all are welcome.

That's fine with me. If difficult people wander in, I can choose to ignore them, and so can everyone else.

In terms of theology a message board shouldn't be the place people use like a catechism. There should be a blanket statement on the site: Don't use this place like a catechism. If in doubt, contact your clergyman.

Then there wouldn't be so much censorship over what people write.
