  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am starting this thread, because I don't want to derail the other thread on pregnancy and nutrition.

I have been thinking about the WW program.

I used it after DD was born (after I had lost and then regained the pregnancy weight minus the actual pregnancy:) )

So I have been thinking about getting started on using WW now. Not for the purpose of losing weight, but for the purpose of getting my diet in shape.

I am very bad when it comes to eating healthy. I just don't eat enough and when I do eat, the food I eat is not the best.
I have only gained 2kg so far this entire pregnancy, and I am a little concerned about my own health. The baby is fine, as he is basically getting everything he needs from me first, and I get what is left (which isn't much) which is why I have been feeling so yucky...

I am thinking of at least re registering just to get the hang of the basics again, so maybe a month or two then going on my own.

I'm not sure which way I want to go, core or points. (obviously with added extra for pregnancy requirements)

I'm not trying to restrict what I eat, just encourage myself to eat better. I used to love the recipes.

And the amount of veggies I used to eat!

And I know that I could just "eat healthy" or "eat better" but I am one of those people who work better when I am more structured and put thought into my meal planning. (It also saves me money on the grocery bill too!)

I also need to work on my exercise! (as currently I am at zero!) walking from the lounge to the TV at the end of the night, doesn't really cut it...

Maybe we could start a thread on suggested menu ideas?? Or what we are planning on eating for the week??
(For the OCD out there like myself....)

When you are pregnant- it is essential to get at least 80g of protein each day. It is also important to not restrict table salt--salt your food to taste. (These are essential components to wrading off pre-eclampsia) Carbohydrates help build amino acids and give you energy...choose complex carbohydrates and fruits--rather than white startches and refined sugars. You do NOT want to restrict calories or healthy fats.

Here is a great place to read about pregnancy nutrition: www.blueribbonbaby.org If you can't get that info to load try here: http://nutrition.birthingnaturally.net/nut101/brewer.html

This site has some sample menus incorporating the Brewer Diet: http://nutrition.birthingnaturally.net/menu.html

I would suggest talking to a dietitian or going over to Babyfit before doing anything like WW or anything like that.

It's better to remove processed foods and eat things you make at home from scratch and/or loads of fruits and veggies, dairy and meat -- than that. If you crave something, often there is a reason.. even if it's "just chips!" or "just a peice of chocolate!"...

You really have to watch about weight and such with pregnancy (too much loss or gain) as the baby and you have certain specific needs and it can throw off the hormones, your thyroid or make it hard for you to get enough nutrition while s/he is developing and "robbing" you to get what s/he needs.

Be active and watch your health, and be sure to talk with your OB and a Dietitian/Nutritionist and be upfront, odds are they'll give you some of the best advice.

I'm not sure what the "rules" are for WW in Australia, but I know that in the US, WW will NOT let you be on any program while pregnant--core or flex. I know there are some OB/Gyns who will create a modified version of the program for their patients. But, your best bet is to talk to your OB, who will probably recommend a nutritional guideline for pregnancy, or refer you to a nutritionist.

I have been making sure that I am eating more now. And keeping up with my supplements. Since I swapped my prenatals to a one tablet daily instead of two, it has lessened the "gag" response!

And keeping with my iron tablets helps too.

I'm trying to increase the amount that I am eating, and making sure that I eat at regular intervals.

I just want to clarify, I wasn't looking to join WW to loose or maintain weight, I wanted advice on a way to increase my nutrition in a healthier way.

I go and see my MW on Tuesday so I will keep a diary of what I have been eating for a couple of days leading up to the apt and see what she says.

Thanks for the links Shannon!
