  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hypnotherapy...

Hi all... I'm just posting this for guiadence regarding Hypnotherapy. I'm seeking Counselling and she (who is also a Christian) has suggested hypnotherapy to change my habitual mind. She advised that no one (not even God) can control your mind. I'm quiet convinced in some ways as it is 'clinical' hypnotherapy. I've read some info on the web and seen that you are in TOTAL control of your mind when being 'hypnotised' and can stop at anytime.

As God does not choose to control your mind- no on on this earth has the power to do so either, not even satan.

You thoughts will be much appreciated.

God bless,
JF1999

Hypnotherapy... [...]

For all I know, it is not possible to make a hypnotized person do anything she doesn't really condone, period - even though a gazillion horror stories abound about the clichee of hypnotized people committing all kinds of vile acts. Furthermore, it is not even possible to hypnotize an unwilling person at all. Basically, what we call hypnosis is just outside help to reach a trance you basically can reach all by yourself too.

I will not dare to judge the possible religious implications (that depends too much on the specific faith involved), but based on all my "secular" knowledge ;), hypnosis is harmless.

Have you ever watched a movie, and you are so engrossed in it, that you are crying when someone dies, or scared along with the person being chased?

The reality is: you are in a movie theater. You are perfectly safe, they are actors, they can't hurt you, didn't really die, and you are looking at a moving picture - it's not happening in front of you.

Yet, it feels real. You feel fear, joy, laughter, sadness, etc.

That's what hypnotherapy is like.

Here's another example.
You go to school or work. You feel fine. Someone says, "Are you ok? You look pale." You say you are fine, and someone else says, "Under the weather?" After several people saying it, you think, "Wow, maybe I am sick" or even start feeling sick, even though you aren't."

A friend of mine stopped smoking using hypnotherapy, and said she never had a craving for it ever again. Under hypnotherapy, she was told that cigarettes are poison, so instead of associating it with taking breaks and relaxing, she would later always imagine putting poisin into her body, and simply stopped.

If you are very still, you can even hypnotize yourself.
Lay still and keep telling yourself that you will stay very alert, but very relaxed (the way you may have done, "Light as a feather, stiff as a board"). After 10 minutes or so of really deep relaxation, imagine a warm liquid starting at the top of your body, slowly moving down your body. Then tell yourself, that you eyes are being welded shut. No matter how hard you try to open them, you will not be able to. Tell yourself for a good five minutes that you will not be able to open your eyes. Now test it out.

When you are ready, tell yourself that you can open your eyes, and they will open without effort.

Hypnotherapy can "reprogram the bad tapes" that run in your head, like someone who told you that you were unlovable, ugly, etc. Like a person whose eyes can open easily, they are simply listening to the mind. Change the programming, and your "eyes open" without problem.
