  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't follow. What scientific hoaxes have taken such a long period of time before they were exposed? (And I'm talking specifics here)

That'd be a rare thing.  As that article noted, other scientists were on their case straight away.

Scientists (those rascals) love nothing more than to prove each other wrong.  They're just a bunch of party poopers. :)

Cheers,

well, some are short, others aren't. They still debate about fossil bones and weather they are really human or not.

Which are short and which aren't? And how is a debate about whether or not a fossil is human or not, a hoax?

Well, at least science makes the effort, even when it's not an obvious fraud.

That's the beauty of science: it's self-correcting, and not ashamed to do so. It can only be so because there is no idol worship, no dogma, no forbidden questions.

can any other system make that claim?

most textbooks and museums still show the evolution of the horse exhibit which was proven wrong half a century ago. They still call the pelvic bones in whales useless vestigial structures when in fact they are anchor points for muscles which are necessary for reproduction. they still say fetuses have gill slits which is also a lie. they form stuctures that have nothing to do with breathing. Calling little creases gill slits is like calling a fat persons double chin creases gill slits. The human tailbone is still called vestigial but it to is the anchor point for a group of muscles which we all need. They still call neanderthal man a primitive human but it was proven long ago that it was only an arthritic old man. they came up with one called nebraska man, which they built up from just one tooth. Turned out to be from a pig. The geologic column exists only in textbooks. They use fossils to date rock layers, They call them index fossils, but then turn around and use the rocks to date the fossils. Thats called circular reasoning. The list goes on and on. All these and other things shown to be false are still in textbooks used as fact to teach their religion (evolution) at tax payer expense.

Yes! That's it!

I thought that drivel sounded familiar, but I couldn't remember where it was from. It was driving me insane.

It's Chick, all right. Perhaps Scott would care to support it with a good dose of dr dino?

Huh? People were doing this long before "science" was founded....?

"no forbidden questions."

Not so sure about that....

Science is open to all questions, no matter how outrageous.

Name one forbidden quesion, one outlawed idea. The only ideas that are "forbidden" are the ones that can't be proven scientifically (which puts them outside the realm of science anyway), or have already been disproven, but refuse to go away.

The flat Earth, the hollow Earth, the geocentric solar sysem, the "evil spirit" theory of disease are just a few ideas which have been tossed out. Those who hung on to those ideas after their time was up were mocked, and deservedly so.

Wow.

Ladies and Gents, we have just been exposed to "Da Troof!"™

Science and reason don't stand a chance in the face of "Da Troof!"™ Just one judicious application of "Da Troof!"™ will banish evil naysayers, and render them toothless.

Not really. There are certain things 1. science simply cannot answer and 2. scientists detest and scoff at evolutionary theory being the clearest example.

1. I totally agree. There are many questions outside the domain of science. That is why scientism is flawed.

2. Clearest example of what?
