Wow An Aspergers Area

Hi ppl

Just wanted to say Hi to this section of the forum :O
My younger brother was diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome about 10 years ago, he's a great kid , very smart and u wouldnt know he had a problem ^^
Now I thought id offer any advice I can on Aspergers, since ive been living with him for many years i know alot about it as does he, and im sure he'd be honored to post here one day and tell u of his struggles and whatnot, He is also in an Aspergers support group where he is the leader of it and has helped many ppl ^^
He's only 15 but its amazing, I just hope one day be becomes a christian from it all..
IF anyone has any questions/problems with Aspergers please dont fret to pm me and ill help u through ur problem as will my brother

Bless ya Zora, I really admire those that struggle with Aspergers or Autism or any disability. Focus on heaven and how great it will be, god gives us all struggles, some greater than others but you must keep going through life Bless ya so much mate

And bless you both for finding this and posting here! My son is autistic. He's 9 years old and is severely speech delayed. My husband and I are pretty much his voice. Now, our son CAN talk. He has his words he likes to use and is learning more as time goes by. But you know what amazes me? You ask him who made the grass, the sky, the animals and so on...he'll tell you God did. For the longest time I was worried about his spiritual state. God's shown me not to worry. We are ALL God's children and God really knows our child's heart, mind and soul. Much more than we do. So, I've put my child in God's Hands and it is such a great peace of mind. Knowing God is always there for him, even with things seem all wrong at once. God takes care of us all.

The Best way I can describe it ( and it differs from person to person )
Is Saying someone is unique in their thoughts, they think differently and view the world Differntly.
Eg My Brother loves movies, but when he watches a movie he does not see the story as such, he looks more at the humor, if there is something funny or silly he will laugh his ass off
He also likes wierd things like guns and spiders :O

Aspergers is on the autism spectrum. Some say it is a mild form of autism, some say it is another disorder separate from autism.

Unlike autism, the aspergers child has no speech delays. He is often one who will speak large words at a young age; a little professor.

Most aspergers children have a terrible time with social skills. They are very forward, speak things that come to their mind without understanding the social ramifications. Like telling someone their new hair cut is terrible. To them it is just the truth, to a non- aspergers; it can be an insult.

They don't understand body language or inuendos, they miss a lot of jokes but find things hysterical that others may not.

They get fixated on things, almost obsessive.

Aspergers children often have a high IQ and an area of incredible expertise. I know a person who has a son with Aspergers. He has 4 masters degrees. He was asked to work for a high powered company, interviewed and offered the job. He forgot to call them to tell them he would take it (not understanding the "social rules".) He just showed up for work and found out they offered the job to someone else because he never told them he wanted it.

Because Aspergers is a spectrum disorder, not all people have all the symptoms and they manifest differently in each person.

My little boy (4) is currently being evalutated for HFA (High Functioning Austism) so we have been to many support groups and trainings lately. He has a speech delay so he will not be classified as aspergers and he has no obsessive tendencies.

He has a lot of sensory intergration issues and may be diagnosed only with Sensory Integration Dysfunction as he is social and has eye contact with people. (I am told that Sensory Integration Disorder may soon be put on the spectrum as well.) His scores currently are 22 out of 30; 30 meaning someone is autistic. He is missing one more peice to the evaluation so we won't know for sure until June or July.

Anyway, I hope this helped answer some of your questions.

Research has found that everyone has Autism in some form and to some degree - but in some cases, it cannot be detected with current technology.

Personally, I think that if you can harness Autism, Asperger's Syndrome or whatever else in a certain way, it can actually be of use to you. For example -

I started walking, speaking, reading and everything well before most people. As an example of my reading ability, when I was around 5-6 years old, I took a reading test for someone of around 10 and recorded it onto a tape to be sent off to the examiners. The examiners didn't believe the school when the school told them what age I was, so they personally visited the school to ensure that the school was telling the truth - rest assured, I proved the school right...

Now, a lot of people who I know who specialise in this subject say that my early development of the ability is due to Asperger's Syndrome.
