It's not that scary. Storms are really fascinating if you know how they work and know how to "chase" them safely.

Tornados are the really dangerous part. That's the part that should be handled by professionals.

It is very scary sometimes.... but each time, you learn something, so as to avoid that situation in the future. Some of the guys I run with have over 20 years experience, and even they get caught off guard once in a while.

The key is respect for the weather, a good communications and radar system, good obervation skills, and your own personal limits and vehicle limits. Unfortunately, the first few times out can be a little scary until those are established, which is one of many reasons to work with an experienced team at first.

I used to wark for a low budget air freight company that would fly there aircraft through level 5 thunderstorms. We are not talking about modern aircraft either, they were flying DC-3s built in the early 40's and late 30's and this was happening in the late 90's. They did have a mid-air break up when a pilot flew a light twin engine airplane into a tornado over Texas. It was by the Grace of God that they only had that one crash and only that one pilot lost his life.

I'd love it.
I would be scared of a tornado when my life is in danger, but they're so interesting to me. I really want to see one!
We had one come about 3 miles away from where I live, i didn't get to see it but i bet it was awesome!

Nah I would love it so much. I used to want to be a storm chaser when I was a little kid. And I mean the hardcore when I'm not chasing storms I'm wearing a lab coat testing samples of volcanic ash storm chaser haha! ^_^
