Would you willingly hire someone that uses the Lord's name in vain?

I have a financial planner that was recommended to me that I would like to work with. In our initial conversation, the person used the Lord's name in vain in describing something. It put me off. Since I can hire any financial planner, I wonder if I am making the wrong decision choosing this person and whether I should take this as a sign. On the other hand, it happened once in one conversation and I do not know if its the persons habit. We all surely make mistakes, myself included...I don't know how harshly I should judge someone for one error, though it is an error that bothers me.

This has been something that has bothered me about those close to me. I have asked them not to do it in front of me and this has worked.

I hire people to perform a service, not to share my beliefs. I would just ask them to not say it in my presence, and as the employer, that is my right.

Using the Lord's name in vain is NOT a reference to using it as a swear word. It means saying something is of God when it is not of Him. Neither is not an unforgivable sin. If it bothers you ask him not to use it in front of you.

I wouldn't if I wasn't required by law to give equal opportunity. I believe in separation of church and state so if it was up to me, Christians and Christian establishments would be able to choose not to hire someone against their religion eg. muslims working at Christian bookstores and such.

Why do you believe his irreverence to be a sign of a lack of honesty or competence with your finances?

If I were to need to hire any of my coworkers for something, and if I used that as the basis of my hiring decision, I wouldn't have very many candidates.

It's not the right question. Ask the Lord if He wants you to hire him, and then do what He leads you to do.

I know prayer helps, but there is also discernment. some times we can feel the character of someone and taking the Lords name in vain would be confirmation. " a little leaven , leavens the whole lump"
