Would you want adults to be able to have access to this section to give advice

This section of the forum is restricted to members who are between the ages of 12 to 19, which in a way I think is positive because teens need a place of our own to interact with one another. There are already teen-exclusive areas of this section for more casual interaction, such as the ones for Christian Teens, Younger Teens, and Older Teens. To me there are disadvantages to the age exclusivity in this particular sub-forum of the teen section where teens come to discuss more serious matters.

There's very few active teens on this site, so if you seek out wise counsel and advice there's a limited expectation that another teen will see it and respond. Some of the most prolific members who used to contribute so much of their time and efforts here have now either aged out of Teens or are legal adults now and frequent the 18+ sections where there's far more activity.

The other issue is that sometimes the problem a teen is grappling with is more substantial, and other teens don't have the life experience to have the same perspective an adult would. I think only teens should be able to seek help here, but adults should be allowed to give it so long as it's age appropriate. I especially think 20 somethings who have only recently grown out of their teens but are very much in touch with the challenges of the stage of life could give valuable responses. But all adults have lived through their teens, and those who work in some capacity with adolescents like teachers or have experience interacting with us might have more wisdom.

Thoughts? This section is so infrequently used that it seems like a nonissue, but I was thinking of ways it could become more functional not just for current users but kids in the future who might come here hoping to gain some wise advice or have a caring soundboard. I was thinking of bringing this up to moderators in one of the threads to talk about rules, but wanted to post here first to see what other teens think of the idea.

You know I agree with you. :)
It would be nice to have adults participate and give wise counsel.
This area is slow but I have seen several teens participating in threads.

*Hugs*

Yeah. This forum sort of reminds me of those Russian Nesting Dolls where you have to open one to find another and then another. I think this section in particular is tucked within others, so teens on this site might not even realize it's here.

Maybe the moderators will take this into consideration. *Crosses fingers*

I would like to be able to have people who are, say, under 30, give advice. But I sometimes feel like the advice older people give is a little bit distant... Like they grew up in a totally different world and their ideas of what we should do don't always fit with the reality of being a teenager in 2015. as an extreme example, my grandmother has tried to convince me I should bring a gun to school... Not all examples are that extreme, but still.

I guess it would be nice to have a place where we can ask for advice and anyone can answer, though. Those of us who are over 18 can get advice from anyone in LSHO but I'm noT sure if there's a place where younger teens can.

GRACIE! It's good to see you here! I come on at odd hours and don't really lark about the site so you might have been here, and I just haven't seen you much.

There's definitely limited options for the under-18 crowd. I've discovered the hard way that they are very diligent about monitoring sections and booting you out of the age restricted areas. It's like penalizing you for being honest about your age, haha.

I can't believe your nana tried to convince you to bring a gun to school!!!! Holy smokes, Batman. Yeah. I'm sure she's lovely, but definitely don't heed that advice!

I understand what you mean about how some older people are not in touch with what it's like to be a teenager in 2015. Though there are some annoying people in their 20s who already seem old even if they aren't and don't "get it" anymore. In LA it seems like there's a bit of a prolonged adolescence or something because I find older people relatable. I am friends with people in their 30s through dance, art, and music ventures. They seem to get me, but then again, I'd never ever tell them about any angsty teenage stuff. I'd much rather rant to strangers online whose judgements won't impact my real life. Hence the reason I whine on here sometimes. :D

I don't think many people use this section.......... I just wish that it could be more helpful to those who do use it or would like to, now or in the future.

I think you both have tried really hard to get this section going. I have seen younger people now and then all over but they don't seem to come here because it's so dead.
It seems to be like that on most of the forums I have looked at. I guess we are the oddball forum age group...either that or there is a secret forum somewhere with all the young people and we weren't invited :D.
