Suppose a popular candidate was running for the presidential office and this candidate shared all of your views on politics and governmental policy but was an atheist.

Would you vote for this candidate? Why or why not?

I ask this because polls show that atheism is an extremely discouraging attribute to many Americans. I'm just curious as to why.

Oh you know, Craig, just the status quo blanket statements that ignore the content of the posts that they quote.

Y'all are completely ignoring the "moral" issues. Unless there is an "Atheists for Life" caucus out there I'm not aware of, I would not vote for an atheist, because they would not represent my views. Further, could you please provide me with the percentage of atheist republicans in the House and Senate. I really want to know.

First of all, I'm not a guy. Not even close. Secondly, I pointed out moral ISSUES. Thirdly, I'm not a republican, but that's what we've got as a country. Fourthly, asking a question does not make me a "party guy". But if were a republican, I wouldn't be ashamed of that. On the other hand, if I were Dem., I'd be hanging my head right about now.

guy was meant as generic.

so why the question about the republican party? why limit your inquiry to just them? what do you mean, "that's what we've got as a country"? if you would be proud to be a republican, why aren't you one?

reminds me of groucho marx saying he would never belong to a a club that would have him as a member. lol.

Your inability to think in the hypothetical for a hypothetical question is telling.

so if an atheist ran on a moral platform that was in concert with your moral beliefs against an avowed Christian that espoused an unethical agenda, would you feel voting for the Christian glorified God?

No, I would not vote for someone just because he/she claimed to be Christian either.

The moral equivalency excuse even here? What religious leader's views on atheism in the last or this century compares to the views and actions of the atheists who ran the Piteşti experiment?

( I gots dozens more examples but I'll leave it with
Piteşti for now)

I was comparing Richard Dawkins to the extremism of one of the many various religious leaders.

Which is to say neither is all that extreme when compared to what your talking about, which would be an actual extremist.

Do go on though the conversation you are having with yourself seems delightful.

Tulc beat me to it but this was my post:

The reason these people have to form an organization of their own is because people like you exclude them on the grounds of faith.

You defend them all the time. You are a republican. You cant fool us.

^

^that right there. You are a Republican apologist, text book Neocon actually. You really should retire your Libertarian icon.....at least trade it in for a Constitution party one instead because a Libertarian you most certainly are not.

I am a little (a lot actually) disappointed that our Libertarian membership does not call you out more often. The fact that the Libertarian party is becoming infested with Neocons such as yourself is the main reason I will not align with them. They are in the early stage of Neocon infection that the Republican party was in a short time ago. You people are the kudzu of the Conservative agenda.
