Would you take a bullet for Christ?

Would you take a bullet for Christ? this sounds like a weird question to ask in a Christian message board, but if you really think about it. i mean a guy comes into your church with a gun and says "dont move if you love Christ and would take a bullet to prove it." would you stay or run. .....i asked my freinds this question and the results were rather discouraging. any way.

Sorry for being technical,

The situation is a man says, "Don't move if you love Christ." I don't see how moving would prove I loved Christ, in this situation :). But, with a little logic I think I know what you mean.

The truth is I honestly don't know. I love Christ, in that, I obey His word and commandments-- but even in that love, I fail. I very often break them. I cannot discern if I would or wouldn't, because no one can really know what he'll do when he's in a situation like that. I believe only somone like Spurgeon could say with assurity that he would, but I do not believe a common Christian would be so sure. It's easy to say, "Yes, I would," but in that actual situation it isn't so easy.

When my time comes, I pray that God would give me the honor of dying for the glory of Christ. However, if God doesn't give me the strenght, I'll just chicken out.

It all depends,

Would I stand to save another, in a flash of a second.

Would I take a bullet to prove I love christ, No.

Would take a bullet to save my fellow from the same fate, yes.

Would I take bullet instead of Knowingly blaspheming the name of Christ, yes.

Would I to save a building, No

Would I to save a book(even the bible), no.

Would I to save a mans soul, yes.

Would I to prevent/stop war, yes.

In other words, I would to save the people of God(a person), or the faith of God(living spirit). But nothing of vainity(earthly).

God bless,
Datsar

Well, even though I think the logical answer for anyone who loves Christ (to "would you take a bullet for Christ?") is yes, since what we can objectively prove to be things more painful have been taken with joy by those that love Christ, I think asking a person if he would take on a certain pain that he has never experienced before is a bit unfair. A more scientific course of action would be to shoot a guy, and then ask "Alright--would you go through that again for Christ?"

Now, the "don't move" analogy really isn't a situation where taking a bullet would be for Christ. That's a situation where a lunatic is spouting out commands. Do we have to follow a lunatic's orders, or his games? Running in this situation would not be lying, nor would it be diminution of faith. What if I said to everyone on this forum "If you love Christ, put a gun to your head and pull the trigger?" Would doing so be taking a stand for Christ? Are all of you denying him by not doing so?

On the other hand, denying him WOULD be denying him. If a person asks you a question and you must answer, tell him the truth. If a person tortures you on the pain of blaspheming him, what would you do? Perhaps that is the question to be asked.

I join with some of the others in discriminating between the acts of obeying a mad gunman's delusions and martyrdom. A nut with a gun in a church is a man that should be first wrestled to the floor (if possible) and second fled from if he can't be disarmed. But if the true question is "would I deny Christ under compulsion?" I believe (and may be incorrect) the only honest answer is "No." This is not because of my personal integrity, but because of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. I follow and support the Voice of the Martyrs, and have read a lot of testimonies of people tortured for their relationship with Him.

Peter denied Christ 3 times, yes, but he did not yet have the gift of the Spirit dwelling within him. Now, all those who follow Christ have that gift. I find in the testimonies of martyrs that martyrs are not "special" people embued with miraculous endurance or natural wills of iron. They are "average" people in "special" tribulations, transformed by God through the Holy Spirit and cradled in the arms of His grace.

So my answer, and again, I may be incorrect, is that, yes, as a follower of Christ, consumed and transformed by the Holy Spirit, but not because there is some humanistic "inner strength" which I possess, I would be a martyr.

And so would you.

I think more important than wondering if God would carry us through martyrdom if circumstances so dictate, I believe it is more important that we pray for those who are in chains for Christ at this very moment, for those who suffer right now for their love of God and for those who will not live to see another hour pass because of their adherence to Christ.

Maybe Peter denied Jesus put of lack of courage and not necessarily out of lack of faith. See, I would love to say YES I would take a bullet for Jesus, and why shouldnt I? Did He take a nail and crown of thorns for me? But, unless God gave me the courage I doubt I would be able to just sit there. Sorry.
