I wouldn't attempt the folly. Instead, I would explain the folly of sacrificing yourself to the invader instead of sacrificing yourself for your family. Then perhaps you'd like to enlighten me as to how sacrificing yourself to a home invader is helpful to anyone who cares about you, or how it's a wise solution to the problem.

Would you shoot a home invader?
Why or why not?
Do you Americans get your houses broken into so much that that gun ownership is so necessary?!
I'm having trouble with my computer so I can't seem to quote, but let me just say that God did not intend for all Christian's to be completely the same. We are each make up the different parts of the Body of Christ on Earth. For some of you, it may be completely okay to approach situations like this with violence in mind. For people like myself, it simply is not. I didn't always feel this was but Christ convicted my heart through Scripture on matters such as this, and I cannot fathom going back to the person I once was.
Let it be said that all of this is hypothetical. I have never dealt first hand with a home invader. I have however met and known quite a few home invaders, some who did it for drugs and others because they were stupid. They are people, flesh and blood, like you and I. In the context of them being a "home invader", I can tell you that my answer is still as true as it was the first time I said it, I do not believe I'd be capable of getting a gun and shooting with the intention of killing them.
As it has been said, desperate times call for desperate measures, and I'm sure that sitting here in my apartment I cannot truly expose the details of what would take place on such a hypothetical night. Would the invader be violent? Would they be a kid? Would it be a family member? Would the invader be seeking to satisfy some sexually deviant craving? I cannot assess all those options given these circumstances.
The question asks for an answer and mine was given, along with a handful of others. We do not feel that we would be able to shoot another person, especially to kill them. I hope that just like myself, that others pray upon this idea often. That if our families lives were in jeopardy that God Himself would intervene whether through us or through another person so that the right action may be taken to Glorify Him.
I will not be treated like I do not know My Savior simply because He has chosen a different path for my life than for another.
are you sure...?God did not let Jesus die and declare that things were finished,
In the cross evil and death have been decisively dealt with by Jesus' self sacrifice. In the resurrection New Creation has begun. That still needs to be fully implemented, consumated, whatever word you like to use,... and we are called to participate in that by living the Jesus way.that everything was made right again.

The cross turns the way of solving problems upside-down, and unless one applies that thinking across the board one hasn't begun to take it seriously.
Just as one hasn't begun to take the theology of Acts seriously if one tries to dismiss the martydom of Stephen as irrelevant to a question on how to respond to threat.
I am convinced through Christ that the same can be said about myself.
I still do not feel that I could shoot to kill another person without exhausting all other options.
What post?
brinny:Would you shoot a home invader?
if he didn't get his hind parts on the floor and stay prone there with his hands behind his head, face down, as commanded till the police came, i would
No-one is suggesting "huddling in fear", but our boldness should be founded in the resurrection, not in a handgun under the pillow, and manifest like Jesus going to the cross, or Stephen in Acts 7, or Peter in Acts 12.God has raised me up to be bold as a lion, not huddle in fear, while evil prevails, unstopped.
Was Jesus crucifixion "doing nothing"? Peter thought so the night before."All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." ~Edmund Burke

Hast thou forgotten? God Almight and His righteous Son, Who now stands at His Father's right hand, are righteous and just? Are holy? That they hate un-righteousness and injustice, and spurn those who ALLOW evil? Who contribute to EVIL by not blocking it?
It is written that cowards will not see the kingdom of heaven.
Was Jesus a coward for not blocking the evil of those beat who him and flogged him and spat on him and nailed him to the cross?
Should he have been more like a Hollywood action hero and blown up all the bad guys?
