You might be flippant with your lack of spiritual belief, but Christians take their faith seriously, and it matters to us if a film with a Biblical subject is being made and the makers of the film happen to be atheists. That poses a problem to us.

I would imagine so what with films being collaborative pieces made of hundreds of individuals (thousands if you count the production and marketing).

Seeing how a film's financial success helps the pockets of all involved in some way or another, the thought of a dreaded atheist receiving money should stop anyone from ever going to a movie ever if they believe atheists succeeding is harmful to faith.:preach:

Is the internet a problem for Christians too? I mean I'm sure there are atheists somewhere benefiting from it as well.:liturgy:^_^

As being a firm believer in Christ. I wanted to see the movie "Noah" but then I found out it was made by an atheist. Now should I go and see it, putting money in the hand of an atheist? or should I boycott it like Glenn Beck asked us too?

Not to be rude, but would like answers from other believerss.

Has there ever been a reason to do what Glenn Beck asks us to do?

I haven't seen the movie personally, so I don't know how it measures up to the Biblical story. I might enjoy an interesting interpretation of it, but a complete distortion would seem to lack taste.

No I don't think an atheist having something to do with it makes it unclean or something.

I'm a little late for this part of the argument- but who says an atheist has no interest in the Bible or in Biblical stories?

My best friend is an atheist (to the point where he's almost anti-theist) and he LOVES The Prince of Egypt. We watch it every few months, because it is so amazingly and lovingly made.

You don't have to be a Christian to appreciate quality programming involving the Bible. Nor to actually make some of that programming, either.

Yeah I just read where the director went on record as saying it's the 'least biblical movie ever made' and according to those who have seen it, it's very blasphemous. Sounds like the director doesn't care at all about the subject matter. As Christian, I don't want to see a biblical tale be ripped to shreds by an atheist who almost seems to be making a mockery out of it.

Please post citation that the movie was made by a professed Atheist cause im interested in that. Thanks.

If it was, Id still go and see it and Id give GOD the glory and honor for his incredible power and grieve with him for the way Mankind has turned out since Noahs Flood --- certainly todays World is many times worse than in Noahs time with infanticide thru walk in Abortion for birth control as wages for Americas favorite pastime of Sexual Hedonism .

Id make it a spiritual experience by watching it , and id be on the lookout for how it differs from what the Bible reports on it thereby making it an educational venue for me .

I won't see it. Not because of Glenn Beck (I don't pay attention to talking heads), but because I stand on my own two feet, and won't support something that so drastically twists the truth of the Bible.

So reviews are out and by all accounts the movie is incredible both in its cinematics and plotwise.

And as predicted, Aronofsky largely ignores the wishes of fervent Christians to make a safe, family friendly, sanitized version of the Noah's ark tale (aka. a live-action Veggietales).

From what I've read/seen, he drew much of his inspiration from the Book of Enoch and Jewish Apocrapha (not new for Aronofsky) with some dashes of Mad Max: The Road Warrior for flavouring.

I am probably go see it either later today or during the week ^_^.

For a review of the film with some highlights as to how it departs from the commonly told tale of Noah's Ark, see the link.

Exactly my point. It's things like this and posts like yours that give atheists a bad name. But I'm sure you could care less. Just keep laughing in our faces.

Serious talk: Can you think of a single piece of Bible inspired art that didn't take liberties with the source material?

Even classics like The Divine Comedy, Paradise Lost, or pretty much any of the artwork in the Vatican differ greatly from what's in the Bible. Are those also worthless aberrations?

It's not just taking creative liberties. It's a smack in the face of Christians. You can write, read and make whatever you want to. You don't have a relationship with God so it's hard to put this in perspective for you. Imagine something you love and hold dear and consider Holy even being mocked. I felt the same way when Dan Brown suggested Jesus survived the cross and eventually had a relationship with Mary Magdalene.

If I made a movie disparaging gay people and their beliefs, well that wouldn't be well received, now would it? I'm just taking creative liberties. What's the problem with that? Oh but you bet there would be picket lines and angry people upset that I was mocking what they believe and who they are.

Well, I liked Dante and Milton back in my Christian days so yes I do understand and disagree. Its only a 'slap in the face' to biblical literalists, ignoring the fact that adaptation by its very nature necessitates liberties be taken as different mediums have different strengths.

Being a fan of comic books, books, and video games, I see it all the time. I don't however, immediately scream blasphemy when a property I love is adapted until I have a sense of the finished product and know the history of those involved.

Remember, some of the best movies in cinema history are adaptations of other works with little resemblance to their original inspiration (The Godfather, The Exorcist, Adaptation, The Thing, Oldboy, etc.).

You realize that like 90% of horror cinema history as demonized gays, and yet their quality is still recognized right?
