  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Would you put your brain in a robot body?

I would not put my brain in a robot body. I would rather keep my nerve endings for the advantage of having certain senses. We could never design anything as intricate as the human body; the knowledge required to do so is infinitely beyond our understanding. For this very reason, the sensory experience of being a robot never surpass that of being a human.

Putting my brain into an android body would skip the cryonic suspension step...

But I would only consider this after I was finished with my current body. I've had a long relationship with my body, and I'm serially monogamous that way.

^But then there would be two of you... It sounds like not robot you would get the short end of the stick, and would probably have to pay for it too!

Have you read the Heechee Saga books by Frederik Pohl? It was that sort of A.I. 'copy' of the brain that I was thinking of.

And I don't see how there can be any other form of 'continuity' for my consciousness anyhow, so this is a good a form of 'immortality' as I could expect. I (the one in this body) gets the "short end of the stick" regardless.

No. I've played with robots. They're pathetic. And removing my brain from my body would have a good likelihood of shortening my life or otherwise turning it for the worse.

What I might like instead is to copy my brain into a computer program. However, I understand computers are not quite advanced enough yet, although we should get there well within my lifetime.

Oh, I think they'll both advance, though computers seem to be advancing faster. Robots have plenty of problems one of which is their energy source, then there's the strength per unit weight and agility and sensory input. There's a lot of things to be improved in robots, but computers have already been steadily improving.

Then Brain -> Computer (in nice safe secure location with improved backup redundant systems ) -> Wireless Encrypted Connection to the Robot & Remote Sensors.
