OK, here is the hypothetical situation:

Your spouse is accused of a crime. You are 100% convinced that your spouse is, in fact, innocent of the crime charged. However, your spouse has no alibi for the time that the crime was committed and you have no idea where your spouse was at that time. You are told that your spouse will be arrested and jailed for the crime unless you can provide an alibi and, then, there is a 100% chance that your spouse will not be jailed.

Will you lie and provide your spouse an alibi? If it depends on something, what?

No, because it'd be worse for him if I got found out! I'd just vouch for his character and tell them what I do know.

Correct, if you repent God will forgive you. But if you sin or in this case more specifically lie, intentionally...you are willfully going against god's will! How do you think God feels if you are delibertly going against him knowing full well it is wrong?

So, when you sin it's accidental?

All sin is deliberately going against him when you know full well it's wrong. Otherwise, if you had no knowledge of it being wrong, it wouldn't be a sin.

My issue was with your use of the phrase "TRUE Christian", as if the sinful ones are fake Christians or something.

I stand beside what I say... you are not Christian if you willfillly go agaisnt what GOD asks you to do/or not to do.. you are a half christian. You aren't wholeheartedly serving god.
but peace, im out on this subject

What has God asked me to do/or not to do in the OP's hypothetical?

Did Rahab willfully go against what God asked her to do or not do?

By faith Rahab the harlot did not perish along with those who were disobedient, after she had welcomed the spies in peace. --Hebrews 11:31

I would not lie. I would pray for God's will to be done, and then I would work myself to the bone to find evidence that would exonerate him.

....except if he did it and you knew he did it, the moral thing for you to do would be to do everything in your power to have him held accountable, found guilty and sentenced to as long a prison sentence as possible... no?

You see the problem with your stance?

Well said.

I do not believe that TRUE Christians lie-- ABOUT ANYTHING. :preach:

Keep true Christians away from me if that's the case!

Jimmy, I know your 5 years old, but, you need to know that I'm a true Christian.

Santa Clause, the easter bunny and the tooth fairy are all horrible LIES.

Your little puppy didn't go to puppy heaven, little Fido is buried in the backyard and his corpse is being eaten by worms.

I love God more than I love you, remember that, your second best next to God...Yes I know, we can't see God, but my faith requires me to love God more than you.

When I told you that Mommy was too tired to play a game with you, the truth is that I wasn't tired, you were completely on my nerves, you sometimes act like a spoiled brat at times and it took everything in my being to prevent myself from screaming at you.

Grandma doesn't come over to visit, not because she lives far away, but it's because she hates your Daddy.

etc etc etc....

Like I said, keep anyone who never lies away from me!!

True Christians should stay away from being police officers, as they have to tell lies in order to get criminals to trust them or they have to tell lies to get murderers to confess to their crimes.

What a lovely black and white view of the world you have!

The premise in the OP was that I was 100% convinced of his innocence. So no, I don't see the problem with my stance.

If I KNEW he did it, I'd be the one to turn him in if someone didn't do it first. If I believed he were innocent, my stance is identical to LisaU's stance and live with whatever evidence I'd find.

Geez, so you know your spouse is 100% innocent and you wouldn't lie to protect his freedom?

Where are your priorities.

People are actually wrongly convicted, it happens...

I cannot understand anyone who would not protect a loved from injustice.
