  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Would you find this offensive???

A shop selling lingerie for pregnant women has been forced to withdraw a mannequin with a baby bump from its window after it sparked complaints.
Amanda Bere opened her shop in Selby, North Yorkshire, eight weeks ago and dressed the dummy in a black nursing bra to promote her stock.

Now remember that there would be other mannequins in the shop that don't have bumps and haven't been found offensive.

Now I know very little about pregnancy but is there a view that pregnant woman cannot try and feel attractive during pregnancy? If in the unlikely event I got pregnant I would still want my sexy underwear. It makes me feel good.

Most mannequins in maternity shops don't wear sexy lingerie.

Pregnant women are mothers, and mothers aren't supposed to be sexy in our culture. We don't seem to mind displays of women's bodies when it's for men, but people become apoplectic when a women discreetly breast feeds in public. It's sick.

People have way too much time on their hands when they can find the time to get upset about such ridiculous stuff. I wonder if they realize how blessed their lives must be if something like this is actually something can rise into even the top ten things in their lives they think they have to do something about.

Regular folk in the west have to worry about paying bills, keeping their jobs in a worsening economy, protecting their children in a sometimes dangerous world, planning for your family's future security. People in less fortunate parts of the world have even more urgent and basic concerns that frighten me even to contemplate.

That there are people who's mmost urgent concern is a mannequin is not only mind-boggling, but offensive. These people need a smack.

I am offended at the offended person.

Call me wierd or whatever, but I think there is something sexy about motherhood. I like the earth-mother virile woman-image & it is too frequently quashed by Hollywood.

Quoting the movie Fight Club -
Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. (exclamation)! an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy (expletive) we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very (irritated).

Yeah, I had to touch up the quote a bit, but there has to be a female equivalent. I think I know what it is. Perhaps pregnancy is the "fight club" of women, where you get to touch the primal, the raw, the real & for a moment glimpse the truth of the world around you. Denying it is the work of profiteers and decievers. Long live lingeree for pregnant women!

Oh brother, pregnany is beautiful. I think the lingere on the mannequin with the bump is more gorgeous than the one without the bump. Who gives what people say about pregnancy not being beautiful...it is...

I would hazzard to say that the people who have a problem with the lingere also find pregancy beautiful--but they also think that pregancy should NOT be sexy. It's the sexiness they usually have a problem with.

Pregnancy can be sexy though, you shouldnt hide yourself during that time.

Oh I agree 100%. It's the nit-wits who think otherwise that get all upset about that mannequin. Seirously, it's like they do not know how people make babies. Or they act like sex is dirty and "oh noes, mommies can not be sexy dirty girls...."

Haha yeah I know, its so silly how some people want to ignore reality. Thats why this world is soo uneducated about sex and stuff because people are too shy or embarrassed to talk about it....thats why so many teens have unplanned pregnancy and stds..its sad really how uninformed some people are.

I agree. The people who don't think pregnancy is sexy are victims of Hollywood, of that other value system.

Put another way, pregnancy acording to my value system means that a woman is strong, is loved and loves, has a passion for life. I like the description of pregnancy in which two people fall so deeply in love that it overflows into and forms another life. That, is beauty, that is sexy. Love strong enough to be heroic, sexy is the fruit of a secure passion. I am not saying that pregnancy is sexy because of some phsiological aspect or bizare fettish, but rather pregnancy is sexy because of what it should mean. I agree very much with LovesTruePassion, that pregnant women shouldn't hide. It should be a mark of pride, to be pregnant is to defy the marketing monster. To be pregnant is sexy because there is security, self confidence, virility, love, passion, strength . . . a woman who loves deeply enough to trow off the corrupt ideal of Hollywood and show what real sexy is. It does not mean she was insecure so she opened her legs to a man and now has "a problem". It does not mean that she can no longer appear the ideal. The Hollywood-marketing monster didn't pick 17 by accident. They have chosen to call "sexy" the narrowest age - wherein girls are made to feel inadequate all their lives because they aren't women yet, don't have fully developed breasts, blah, blah and after 17 it is all about looking young again, scouring off cellulite & being haunted by wrinkles. They didn't pick 18 because 18 year olds can be photographed nude, 17 thus is the Hollywood ideal because at 17 they look like women but can still sell the idea of virginity. Hollywood is a lie. Getting bent out of shape over pregnancy lingeree . . . I have a hard time understanding if it doesn't come from that Hollywood mindset.
