  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Would you date outside your denomination?

Would you date outside your denomination?

It's not "my beliefs" its what the Word of God says.

So actually... what you're really saying whether you realize it or not is, "I would rather believe what the rest of the world believes rather than what Scripture says on the matter."

GQ Chris, your statements are EXACTLY why I don't think I could date outside my denomination, because I agree with the way you illustrated the Man's role in terms of spiritual matters in the household and if I disagree with his denomination, I simply cannot compromise and this wouldn't work

I feel a bit too narrow-minded on this but I can't help it. Jesus was narrow-minded too (in terms of being the narrow door) and we all follow him...

Up to last night I woulda say as long as they're a Christian I'd go for it but last night I met this Christian who doens't believe in celebrating Christmas so my answer would be I'd prefer my denomination which is Pentecostal or something with close similar beliefs

I go to a non-denominational church, so if I date anyone, I guess it would be out of my denomination. The most important thing for me is to have a relationship with Christ. I would probably be OK with another denomination as long as I agreed with the doctrine, and it didn't follow any theology I strongly disagreed with.

LOL! You are so cute!

As for the OP... my gut tells me that when it comes down to it - when a friendship moves from just getting to know someone to discerning a deeper romantic involvement... I really don't think I could date someone of another denomination. My faith means so much to me that in order to give myself fully to a man, I would need to share my faith fully with him, too. That way we could both bloom and walk together.

I think it takes a great deal of strength to approach being unequally yoked. A great deal of strength. I do not think I would be strong enough for that.

Yes, but it would be tougher. Of course, I think that my views are different from many in my own denomination also... so I think that discussion would need to take place nomatter what.

The reason why it would be tougher is that most SDA are vegeterrian (and I am) and while I am fine worshiping on sunday (as well as on the Sabbath), it would be easier if both me and my wife could worship on just one day a week.

i was pretty shocked

I know people who get discusted about the comercialism of it. Or who get all incensed at it's pagan roots.

I personally like the tree and traditions and especially the time to celebrate Christ's birth and the Christmas Carols (especially the religious ones). Taking time to give is also nice.

I don't like it becoming some big fancy spending spree.

JM
(I haven't really celebrated it much for a couple years though, as my family doesn't do much and I haen't even had the money to visit them recently)

I would date anyone that believed that Jesus Christ was born and rose again and saved us from our sins. As well, he must have a loving relationship and/or desire to know God. Also, he must have a desire to study and learn from the Holy Bible. Aka, he must be going to heaven with me and therefore believe in SALVATION through JESUS CHRIST.

Denomination is not an issue but I know that many United churches to not preach salvation so this may even disclude some Protestants.
