Nope. The only Sci Fi movie I know is Alien, and even that is not good to watch. Most movies belonging to the Fantasy/Sci Fi genres are not very good to watch.
4So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world and that there is no God but one. 5For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"), 6yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
7But not everyone knows this. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat such food they think of it as having been sacrificed to an idol, and since their conscience is weak, it is defiled. 8But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do. 9Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak. 10For if anyone with a weak conscience sees you who have this knowledge eating in an idol's temple, won't he be emboldened to eat what has been sacrificed to idols? 11So this weak brother, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge. 12When you sin against your brothers in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. 13Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to fall.
We were talking about movies for CHILDREN and Kids. Now do you regret your post? Maybe it was a little childish and your use of asterisks as obvious swear words on a forum dedicated to Jesus Christ?
Think about it.
The original poster seemed like an adult person. I never got the idea that now we are speaking of movies for kids, especially after someone mentioned "Alien".
I am childish, I know. No, I don't regret. I'm kinda stubborn that way. Sorry.
This topic reminds me of 1 Corinthians 8 when Paul is talking about food sacrificed to Idols.
We have the freedom in Christ to watch SciFi and fantasy themed movies as long as it does not become a stumbling block to the weak around us. I do not have a weak conscience. I see the Wizard of Oz for what it is. A Movie. The evil witch and the good wizard in the story do not cause me to sin and my children know the difference between a movie and real life and it does not cause them to sin.
When I am in my sister's household they are vegetarians. Although eating meat is not a problem for me it is for them. I eat vegetarian when I am with them so it will not to betray their conscience and cause them to sin. They also would not watch movies like The Wizard of Oz and I would not ask them too because it may cause them to sin. When I get home we put steaks on the gill and give thanks to The Lord for his cow that he provided to us to eat. In Christ we have the FREEDOM to take these things and evaluate them, pray over them, and if it does not cause you or anyone else to since it is your choice.
Here is an example that I am sure will yield some interesting responses. My Step-Children were allowed by their mother to read the Harry Potter books. My hubby and I read the books as well so we could discuss with the children the contents of the books and teach them to be discerning with what they read. The books did not cause us to sin or to start attempting witchcraft. Many of you would not even dream about touching those books. For you if the books are questionable to your conscience. Doing so would be bad and sinful for you. So then don't do it. For us it wasn't like that. We were not reading the story out loud to you and causing you to sin. We used the wisdom God gave us to discuss and be able to talk to my Step-Kids about what they were reading and keep it what it was, just a story. God gave us brains, he gave us intellect, and wisdom. We need to pray, ask for guidance, and use what He gave us.
What a great idea.silence said:because we have a family movie night where we invite all our children's friends and our neighbors and people from our church.
