  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

would u tithe 10% in this situation?

We'd give far more than the 10%. There is no question about that. God has blessed so amazingly and what a blessing it would be to give back.

Side note for those who wouldn't give to their church, you must be in the wrong church. When you find the right church, you'll want to do all you can for them.

When I was a teenager, I paid 10% of my earned income (allowance or money from job), and if I was given a gift I paid 50%.

Now that we have debts and projects, I'd give at least 10%, but probably not 50% unless it was a huge amount and I really didn't need that much of it.

Well I don't care whether you call it a tithe, an offering or a blargleflumpt. I'd give give a significant amount of money to my church. I've greatly benefited from my church and funds there are tight right now, so yeah, the money would go to my church.

Absolutely! I would tithe my 10% and would also sow a gift. God loves a cheerful giver! I mean, that's money you had no idea was coming right? So it's not really a loss then is it? God's only going to multiply it! Sure I'd like to reap what I sow. Isn't that the whole point of tithing? To give cheerfully, expecting a return on your deposit! His system never fails... And people pay money for financial advice... Hahaha!

I don't tithe because I expect a return on my money...I tithe because EVERYTHING that I have is God's...money and all...it's not mine. And the first part of that money, at the very least, I feel, should go back into the Kingdom...so, no...IMO, that's not the point of tithing. To me, it's like saying "God, I'll give this to you as long as you pay me back with interest."

Go and find a believer that you know has been struggling - and bless them.
Find the person at your church that is a servant but that is brushed off as a "nobody" ( no matter how wonderful your church may be - there are still those there that are overlooked and neglected ).
Do for them what you would want done for you if you were in their shoes.
God will bless you ministering to your brother and/or sister in Christ for doing so.
Yeshua said, " whatever you have done to the least of these, my brethren, you have done to me".
Go with God's leading and do it with a cheerful heart!

I would tithe 10% under the following conditions:

1. If I were a Hebrew with a Levite priesthood who had no money or property of their own.
2. If it were the third year.

The 10% tithe was spent on a feast for yourself, or things you wanted, two years out of three; it was only given to the priests in the third year.

Furthermore, it was a Hebrew practice.

As Christians, we are not under any such stricture.

My advice, if you have a large amount of unexpected money, is to find those friends or acquintences of yours who are closest to the line; paying overdraft fees and late fees. Give them some extra money to help them get out of debt and start on their way to financial stability.

How much? As much as you can.

Yes, I would and will be doing that soon. We have some property we're selling and will be making a lot of money off of it. We pray daily for this property to sell as soon as possible so we can use that money to get out of debt. How can I pray each day and not give back? We will be giving at least 10% or more.
