• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I was browsing around the Congregation section of Foru.ms, and just noticed that there is a new Moderate Christian section.

I personally feel that I am conservative in the way I try to walk my Christian walk and taking the Bible for what it is, making me feel quite at home here at CC.

Politically, however, is another story. I am actually a nonpartisan (which I pointed out in the "Introductions" thread), and believe that all politicians, regardless of party, have ideas that are not exactly moral but have their share of good points, as well. Which makes me, as far as these matters are concerned, more moderate.

So, if I am conservative in lifestyle and moderate in politics (in fact, I don't even discuss the latter very much), that would place me sort of in-between the two.

That being said, my question is this: can I belong to both forums?

Hello there,

As far as I know there is no rule against belonging to both at this time. Politically,
I believe we can all agree that sometimes you have to vote for "the lessor of two evils".
The person may or may not belong to your political party.
I don't believe that in itself makes you non-conservative.
Hope that helps.
God bless.

We do have conservative views on 2 hot button social issues - abortion (we are totally pro-life) and against homosexuality/homosexual marriage/etc. If you agree with those two positions and are theologically orthodox, then welcome to CC.

I'm in agreement on all counts. I simply don't feel that being in a particular political party affects those beliefs. While it seems to me to be mainly Republicans that are known for this stand, I'm quite sure there are a fair number of Democrats, Independents, Liberatarians, Greens, etc. that feel likewise. But I am not affiliated with any party. I am one who votes for the person rather than the party.

Like I said, I am not politically vocal, and am usually quiet about such matters. I just know that all politicians, no matter what party they are from, need our prayers for God's guidance in the decisions they make.

Theologically, I am personally very straightforward and fundamental, but not to the point of being "legalistic". I believe that each individual has his/her own personal convictions to deal with, but I also have my own walk to pay attention to, so I try not to point fingers. And ulitimately, everyone has the same God to answer to, when all is said and done.

So basically, I still consider myself conservative.

Of course you are! The CC Statement of Faith is all about theology, not politics, save on those two specific issues. You don't have to be a Republican or even an American to be a theological conservative.

Those of us CC members who've chosen to also join the Moderate Christian forum are not (as Albion has observed) "Moderate Christians", but "Christians who behave with moderation." You may wonder why we felt the need for such a place, but as you get to know CC, I think you'll understand.

Does it? No offense intended, only constructive criticism. If you want it in blunter terms, I agree completely with Simon_Templar's diagnosis of the problems here, and I posted as much in his thread... though I'm sticking around for now.

I guess maybe in her zeal to promote the new M-Forum, while simultaneously setting her focus on posting a 'not so discreet' incivility, she neglected to realize that WannaWitness has already stated that she has been a member here since nearly the inception of the CC and has found a lot of great people here.

And you stated such already. But I'm sure you agree that there's no sense in
derailing WannaWitness' thread to promote your effrontery, right?
