Worst Sub in Anime

Okay, so we all know that there are some animes out there that have been dubbed in english where the voices...well...they stink.

So I'm wondering, what is your biggest dissapointment in American dubs?

Mine, without a single doubt in my mind....Is Alphonse from Full Metal Alchemist.

Trust me, when I heard Megaman NT Warrior over here, it was so lame, it wasn't even funny. Like a disgrace to the games I love with a passion. Then, I started watching the subtitled version, Rockman.EXE as they call it, and that rocked. So, hands down, Megaman NT Warrior. I was disappointed with almost EVERY SINGLE VOICEOVER. They made a 10 year old kid sound like a 20 year old surfer dude.

You mean dubbed? Subbing is where it's still Japanese but there are subtitles to follow along.

Well, considering I usually watch dubs without having seen the original first (and typically stick to watching dubs if I can) there are very few shows that I can comment on. But off the top of my head, Greed from FMA. He just sounds so much more convincing in the Japanese.

I would say Samurai X, or rather Rurouni Kenshin. Never mind the voices. They even got Kyoto, Tokyo and Edo mixed up, not to mention mangled names and translations which is totally different from the original dialog.

ONE PIECE

Let's see, they cut out 20 entire episodes (two main arcs and one mini), merged 9 episodes, gave Sanji some weird NY accent, turn guns into supersoakers/cap guns/cork guns/hammer guns/knives, turned Usopp into a complete sissy by giving him a horrid VA and by cutting out scenes where he actually does cool things and has character development, changing the plot, adding in plot holes, making up parts of the plot (usual to comphensate for the skipped episodes), turing all alchol into power juice, editing out all tabacco, editing out all blood, changing character's pasts, adding in that RAP, adding in tons and tons of puns, not sticking to the original script what so ever, and basically turning what used to be a good show into a show that unsupervised 6 year olds can watch and make fun of. I'll never forgive them for what they did to One Piece. Man... the original can be so.... powerful... It's not even the same series anymore...

What did you expect? 4Kids is notorious for that kind of stuff - look at Pokémon, there's a few episodes that got banned - or better yet, look at Yu-Gi-Oh! Or Card Captor Sakura, even though technically that was Nelvana, but 4Kids works with the same people that Nelvana did for CCS. The fact that One Piece got snagged by 4Kids instead of a reputable licensing firm should have thrown up red flags from the beginning.

(By 'reputable licensing firm', I'm referring to companies like Pioneer/Geneon and Bandai, and to lesser extents, ADV Films, FUNimation, Anime Works, Central Park Media, Viz, Urban Vision, or U.S. Manga Corps. - the most they typically do is censor it for television but leave it alone on the DVD releases, and probably have bad dub actors, but don't get butchering claims thrown at them except from those that don't like the voice talent - some of those listed had less-than-reputable pasts, but have since cleaned up their acts)

There was this funny comic about what would happen if One Peice got snagged by 4kids, and, it had Luffy standing on a pirate ship, and this short, little doctor walks up to him. Luffy asks 'Who are you?'. and the short elf replies, 'I work for 4kids!'. He quickly jumps on Luffy with a large knife, and you can hear Luffy screaming in the background. The 4kids worker stands up, blodd and gore all over him, and then, he goes off screen, and brings a Luffy-robot onto the screen, turns it on, and it has SUCH a horrible voice, that it kills the 4Kids guy. It was particularly funny, but it's sad that it's true......they better not get a hold of Naruto!

They can't get a hold of Naruto, because Viz already has the license to it, and it's already airing on Cartoon Network*. From what little I saw of it the other night, the English acting is incredibly hammy (of course, not having seen the Japanese version, I have nothing to compare it to but other dubs).

*(and other licensing firms can't wrangle another company's license away, although after one's license agreement expires, another company can pick it up, but that usually just results in redistributing the old dubs - in any case, most licensing agreements typically hold for 10 years or something like that, so that the company holding the license can complete the full stint of their contract)

Well since CCS has already been said, I guess the dub I hate the most would be Gundam Seed. I can't think of one voice in the english cast that I liked. It was horrible.

Oh, Love Hina's dub was terrible too. And Gunparade March.

I don't know, I was excited when I first heard it was going to be dubbed. Even after I heard it was 4kids, I still had high hopes for it. I remember when I first heard the rap and thinking "Oh, 4kids must have made this little music video for One Piece. ...this is getting long, when will it be over?..... oh...." and feeling so disappointed.

you'd think that if they need to edit it so much they wouldn't have liscensed it...

No, Viz is relatively ok, despite the fact that they went ahead and changed Zoro's name and cut down on the cussing. Fortunantly though, One Piece has the best sub-title group there is working on eps. (seriously, they've got like some kind of record. ^^; ) If you'd like, I can tell you where to torrent them......

I thought cardcaptors was good, but having not seen the original jap version I can't really comment. I do think now how strange all the american voices are though.

Have found that most animes have sucky to ok dubbing... although the miyasaki films get decent dubbing, Gasaraki had good dubbing, and warriors of the wind had excellent dubbing, the problem there is that they totally trashed the story and changed a lot of names.... grrrrrr.
