Give me a break. I've kept this to myself for over 10 years, however long this song has been out. I guess it's just been slowly eating at me all this time.
I do the same thing where something can really irritate me for a long time, and then when I finally let it out, people are like, "What's the matter with you?"

But I know how you feel.

About the OP, I don't know the song, so I looked up the lyrics. I thought they were okay. It actually takes a special gift or talent or skill to be able to cheer up someone who is feeling bad. Usually, when I'm feeling bad, I would love someone to understand how I feel.

There are 2 songs that "seem sad" but encouraged me in the last year.

"Dare You to Move" by Switchfoot
"I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before"

"In the Waiting" by Greg Long
"
It seems
the hardest part is waiting on You
When what I really want
Is just to see Your hand move"

Both of these songs were written by someone who knew the experience of the pain they were writing about. And they were comforting to me in my time of pain.

I think the op is intriguing. Trying to come up with the worst song is kind of fun.

My problem is trying to remember songs I don't even like! If you think about it, the words to "Hanky Panky" are stupid. Though for some reason it's a cool song that everybody loved, and sticks in your mind.
Tommy James & The Shondells
My baby does the Hanky Panky,
My baby does the Hanky Panky,
My baby does the Hanky Panky,
My baby does the Hanky Panky,
My baby does the Hanky Panky!
I saw her walking on down the line.
You know I saw her for the very first time.
A pretty little girl standing all alone.
"Hey baby, can I take you home?"
I never saw her, never really saw her.
My baby does the Hanky Panky,
My baby does the Hanky Panky,
My baby does the Hanky Panky,
My baby does the Hanky Panky,
My baby does the Hanky Panky!

On another forum I belong to, we had a "Worst Songs" tournament. The top 8 (or bottom 8, I should say) were:

Me So Horny – 2 Live Crew
Who Let The Dogs Out? – Baha Men
Muskrat Love – The Captain And Tenille
...Baby One More Time – Britney Spears
Feelings – Morris Albert
Rico Suave - Gerardo
La Macarena – Los Del Rio
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds – William Shatner

...I actually do like Baby, One More Time and Macarena and Who Let The Dogs Out are kinda catchy in their own right. Ah, to each his/her own, I guess!

...p.s. the "winner" was Feelings ... so cheesy!:D

blessings,

How can you talk about worst songs without mentioning "Walking on Sunshine" (although albeit it can be more annoying than bad) or any song by Insane Clown Posse?

It's hilarious that people still take that "band" seriously.

For some reason, the inherently and deliberately malevolent universe deemed it appropriate to allow Paris Hilton to record an album. Any of the tracks qualify.

How about "She's a Brick House" from the disco era  that's far, far worse.

It was too bad they ever tried to bring disco music back. again.

It was superficial music at it's worst.

I can't stand angry rap either, nor the montenous beat. Michael Stipe and REM have some really great songs compared to those, IMHO.
