  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Poll: Elections Favor GOP In Midterms - Business Insider

According to the poll, out Monday, Republicans have a 47-43 lead on the generic congressional ballot. That's a 10-point swing from October, when Democrats, boosted by GOP blame for the federal government shutdown, held a 6-point lead in the Pew poll.
Overall, Democrats are plagued by the still-sluggish economy, the unpopularity of the Affordable Care Act, and the undesirable views of President Obama. More voters (26%) say their vote will be "against" the president. Only 16% say their vote will be "for" Obama. And by more than a 2-to-1 margin, voters say they want the next president to pursue policies different from the Obama administration's priorities.

Looks like Obamacare along with a stagnant economy and lack of jobs are going to make it tough on Dems next November. I expect that's why they are trying to drum up support for Global Warming/Climate Change/Climate Distruption in addition to the race card to score some points with voters this year. In spite of this poll though, due to a one-sided media, pop culture influence and potential vote fraud, I'm still not confident that good, conservative Rep. or Lib. candidates can be elected in Nov. But I remain hopeful.

Do we get good candidates anymore? Given the way we treat our politicians I'm surprised we get anyone but the most fringe elements.

NEXT November? I thought the buck gets passed THIS November.

You know what I mean.

Do we get good candidates anymore? Given the way we treat our politicians I'm surprised we get anyone but the most fringe elements.

Well, I am more concerned about how our politicians treat us! :)

Yes, it is a two-way street. But politicians treat us the way they're paid to treat us. Payment may be in the form of millions of $$ in donations and/or in the form of votes to re-elect them. Since the public continues to re-elect sub-optimal candidates they'll continue to act sub-optimally.

Perhaps we treat our politicians the way they deserve to be treated since they are the most fringe elements.

Perhaps the reason we no longer get great politicians is because we subject them to irrational standards, expect them to be plaster saints, and submit their lives to a microscopic examination of their past. Who in their right mind would want to go through that to serve an ungrateful public?

I was three years into a poli sci major at Michigan State when I realized that I could never go into politics for those very reasons. I had aspirations to be the first female POTUS, until I actually worked on campaigns and saw what a person goes through, from election until they're dead basically.

No way.

Exactly. As the saying goes, we get the elected officials we deserve. If you want good people as politicians you have to remove the barriers that drive good people away from politics.

Yes, and woe is us! Unless you're a millionaire, that is. If you worship money, vote Republican!
Not sure what that means, but I imagine there are just as many millionaire Dems in office as there are millionaire Reps in office.

Mega dittoes to that. We should apply a Catch-22 rule to candidates. Anyone who really wants to be President isn't mentally fit for the job.

Personally, I love the assertion that "the media" is "one-sided" as though the internet, untold numbers of conservative sites, blogs, and radio channels don't exist.

The left owns the mainstream media of news stations, papers, magazines and the pop culture. We can even throw the education system in there. Bottom line is, liberalism controls much of what we see and hear. The only media the right owns is talk radio and the free-flow of ideas on the internet. Oddly, the left is always complaining about that. That's why they favor things like Net Neutrality and the "Fairness" Doctrine (which was aimed primarily at Rush Limbaugh). I guess liberals won't be happy until they have the whole ball of wax to themselves.

Money is the "Mother's Milk of Politics"; it knows no party.

Not sure what that means, but I imagine there are just as many millionaire Dems in office as there are millionaire Reps in office.

They're fairly evenly split, but 7 of the richest top 10 are dems

Gotta hand it to you Belk, you did a great job of derailing the thread.

The left owns the mainstream media of news stations, papers, magazines and the pop culture.

And big sites on the internet don't count as "mainstream?" Why is that? What counts as "mainstream" in Conservative Fantasy Land?

We can even throw the education system in there.

Sure. After all they teach science and not evangelical indoctrination, and that's basically the same thing as being a liberal because of reasons....

Bottom line is, liberalism controls much of what we see and hear.
The only media the right owns is talk radio and the free-flow of ideas on the internet. Oddly, the left is always complaining about that.

The right doesn't own the free flow of ideas on the internet. Everyone owns that, which is the same thing as saying nobody does.

And I find it odd that you think that liberals complaining about conservative sources is odd when conservatives whine incessantly about supposedly "liberal sources" like you JUST DID IN YOUR POST.

I interned at one of those "liberal sources." ABC12, which called the initial implementation of AFA a "disaster that was slowly being kind of fixed." And they kept playing ads of the same two families saying that they thought Obamacare sucked.

But ABC is "left-wing" anyway because they aren't Fox News...an organization as bad as MSNBC. The main difference being that I've never had a liberal tell me that MSNBC is fair....because it isn't. But conservatives seem to be under the impression that reinforcing the walls of their echo chamber is the same thing as journalism.

That's why they favor things like Net Neutrality and the "Fairness" Doctrine (which was aimed primarily at Rush Limbaugh).

I guess liberals won't be happy until they have the whole ball of wax to themselves.

Whatever........lol
