Ok, I TOTALLY change my mind! The absolute worst book I ever read was A Walk to Remember. I know, girls...you probably want to start wacking me over the head with your keyboards...but it really didn't sit well with me. Not one bit...and I thought his writing style was awkward and way too simple. Icky...and the movie was just as bad. BoooOOOoOOooOOooOo...sorry to those that like it...I know how that stings! :)

You think the movie was bad? Now, the book I can understand, it's different; but the movie? I love that movie!

Worst book of all time...I don't know. A really poorly written book I'd recommend if you want a laugh (because of how poorly it's written ;)) is Island Breeze, a cheesy Christian romance that I, during a mental lapse, chose to read. But I try to be more careful in the books I choose to read now. ;)

Oh my, I totally agree - that book was a huge disappointment! The film was okay, though.

The Great Gilly Hopkins.

It made my sixth grade year almost a tradgedy, since we read it in class. Drudgery.

Also couldn't get through the latter Wheel of Time books. I'm in the midst of The Lord of Chaos, and I haven't picked it up for a year.

A 1,200 page book that isn't a waste is Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon.

I'm still not sure what I'd pick for worst book. I tend to read a lot of the same books over and over again (My favorites). Though middle and high school did require to us to read some pretty bad stuff.

Worst books hhhhmmmmmm.
I would also vote for Lord of the Flies.
Animal Farm,
DaVinci Code that was just an awful book that was poorly written and poorly researched as far as I am concerned. Now they are planning on making a movie of the book. It was also pornographic in nature as far as I am concerned.
Riverworld was another book that I could not get into I just stopped after the first or second chapter, it just did not make any sense and the movie did not help either.

The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann-- Sorry I know it is supposed to be great- but its not! Too long, too dry, too boring.

And I have to agree with the Left Behind Series-- very poorly written.

And p.s. I loved Lord of the Flies-- bet i have read it a dozen times. The atmosphere is a bit dark, but it asks so many foundational questions like. What is the true nature of man?

i loved LotF too, such an amazing book. you can't read it for the story, it involves more thinking

Amazingly enough, I did think while reading that book and still disliked it. It wasn't my cup of tea. Like HisKnight, I didn't like Animal Farm, either. I sure thought on that one, too. (FWIW: AF was better than LotF.)

Just because one didn't like the book doesn't mean they didn't think while reading it.

I like some of Steinback's stuff, but "Grapes of Wrath" about grapes killed me.

i'm not saying you didn't, im was commenting that many ppl read it for the story and hate it. if you thought about it while you read it and still dislike it, then ihave respect for your opinion. I enjoy stories about dystopias, but i respect your decision not to

When I read LotF we were discussing the book as it was read.
I tend to read books that make me think but that one though it showed the true nature of humans and that utopia is just a myth that will never be accomplished by humans it still was too dark a novel for me.

I guess I just like reading about psycho children. Plus I like symbolism, and LotF is full of it. I'm really fond of Piggy and felt so bad for Simon...and I just really like the atmosphere of the book. I also enjoyed Animal Farm.
But Old Man and the See....that book was terrible. Just terrible!
Oh, and Wuthering Heights really irritated me. Too many people with the same name! Can't stand that.

I don't know about all time, but recently I tried to read 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King and couldn't even get past page 100. I normally love King, but this one was a stinker.

Others: Mystic River, Jack and Jill.

I am drawing a blank now, but there are others!

'Salems Lot was one of my all time favorites 20 yrs. ago, but it is one of King's that I can not bring myself to re-read, although I have recently discovered that there are some connections between 'Salems Lot and the Gunslinger series.

Hm, worst book. Probably Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks. I liked a few of his books, but that one was just horrid and disgusting. It's about a 50 year old woman meeting some man at the Inn she worked at and they fall passionatly for each other blah blah blah..

For Lord Of The Flies (which I have read, but will read again in school in a couple months) we're going to have to write an essay connecting and contrasting the story with the Holocaust.

I don't remember the name of the worst book I ever read. The main character was a man named Ignatius P Reilly or something. He always wore a plaid hunting had with ear flaps and had a digestive problem that he constantly referred to as in "my valve is bothering me". He was a total weirdo with a domineering mother who was mean. My sister made me read it because it was hip and cool years ago. I still make fun of her for that.
That would be 'Confederacy of Dunces', by John O'toole.
